I am delighted to announce the publication of my book:
“The Art of Light: The Artistic Value of Exterior Lighting for Architectural Heritage”
515 pages • 456 full-color images • 381 references
This book is the result of over 20 years of practice and research at the intersection of architecture, lighting engineering, design, and heritage conservation.

From the atmospheric play of firelight on historic stone to the precision of contemporary LED illumination, the book explores how artificial light transforms the way we perceive — and value — architectural heritage.
Rather than treating exterior lighting as merely a technical necessity, the book approaches it as an artistic discipline. It follows the evolution of exterior illumination from pre-electric fire and gas lighting to today's sustainable LED systems, while examining the perceptual and psychological principles that shape our experience of buildings and monuments at night: contrast, volumetry, chromaticity, and the surrounding luminous environment.
The book brings together detailed case studies from architectural heritage in Europe and beyond, including the Statue of Liberty and the Heroes' Cross on Caraiman Mountain, alongside numerous original photographs and technical illustrations.
At its heart, the book asks a simple but important question:
What makes a monument truly come alive through light — and why can the wrong lighting diminish what we see?
With more than 500 pages of research and visual material, I hope this book will be a useful reference for architects, lighting designers, heritage conservationists, urban planners, researchers, students, and everyone fascinated by the relationship between light, architecture, and memory.
I am very happy to finally share this work with you.
The Art of Light — because illuminating heritage is not only about making it visible. It is about revealing its meaning.
