Two new homes on one Meadowbank section took careful planning and a strong team behind it. A heartfelt thank you to Donna Johnston for leading the design for this project, and to Shaun Murphy and the team at Vista Homes for bringing both homes to life.

Good design living in the small decisions. Here are a few of our favourite details in this Meadowbank home.

20/10/2026

For this Meadowbank home, the vision was simple: clean lines, with added volume in the smaller areas. To honour the owners' carefully chosen finishes, our team shaped each room to allow the different materials to sit together naturally, giving every surface the space it needs to shine.

Watch the reel for a closer look at the textures that give this home its character.

The outdoors is part of the brief, not an afterthought.

Where the sun lands. Where the wind comes from. How the house opens up when summer rolls around.

We work all of that out early, alongside everything from land selection to building consent.
Every design starts with how you actually want to live. No stock plans.

A home that’s yours, inside and out.

The Gubb Difference.

Every considered home starts with a considered brief. We take the time to understand how you live, what the site offers, and how the house should feel years from now.

Then we design something entirely tailored to you. Thoughtful, innovative design and a personal approach from first sketch to final detail. No templates, no signature look repeated from project to project.

Most people spend their energy on the benchtops and tapware.

Fair enough. It's the fun bit.

But how a home feels comes down to earlier decisions.
How the kitchen, living and outdoor spaces connect.
Where the sun sits at the end of the day.
Rooms that work together, inside and out.

Get those right and everything after is easier.
That's the part we love. Send us a message if you're planning a build or reno.

Coatesville.
The owners loved their 1980s house. They just didn't love arriving at it, and it wasn't set up for the way they like to have people over.

So we gave it a proper entry, one that feels like you've arrived somewhere. Then we opened up the inside so a full house has room to move.

The bones stayed. The way it lives changed completely.

A project we keep coming back to.
Something about this Matakana one just settles you. Room to breathe, a bit of quiet, and a view that keeps giving. The kind of place you don't get tired of.

We look at a lot of what's going up at the moment and it does the job, but that's about all it does.

Boxes on a section, rooms that work on paper and not much more.
With this one in Sandringham we wanted something that actually feels good to be in.

So before anything else we worked out where the sun sits through the day, how you'd move from one space to the next, what each room is really for. Get that right and you feel it the moment you walk in, even if you can't put your finger on why.

Takes longer than building to a formula. We've never thought that was a good enough reason not to.
