🏗️ Nigeria's cement battle is heating up.
Chinese-owned HBM Nigeria, formerly Lafarge Africa, is expanding its distribution network and production capacity as it seeks a bigger share of Nigeria's cement market alongside Dangote Cement and BUA Cement.
At the same time, cement prices remain high, with recent reports putting a 50kg bag at around ₦12,500–₦15,000 in some markets.
For real estate, this matters.
Cement is a major construction input, meaning sustained high prices can put additional pressure on developers, builders and prospective homeowners.
Interestingly, Nigeria's estimated cement production capacity already exceeds current domestic consumption, and planned expansions could widen that gap further.
So the big question is:
Will increased competition between HBM, Dangote and BUA eventually translate into lower prices for the people actually building homes and properties?
