The Machangulo Nature Reserve unfolds across 5,700 hectares of untamed African beauty: a remote and exclusive sanctuary where wilderness meets the endless blue of the Indian Ocean.

Along its 25-kilometre stretch of secluded shoreline, you’ll find our collection of 14 villas, each designed to live in harmony with nature.

This is Villa Chalix: an ode to natural elegance, where architecture breathes with the wild. Built from mahogany wood and bathed in the warm glow of a fireplace, it blends subtle sophistication with soulful simplicity.
More than a villa, it’s an experience that whispers the essence of place, presence and peace.

Each year between July and October, the migration of humpback whales graces our shores, as these gentle giants travel thousands of kilometers from the icy depths of Antarctica to the warm waters of East Africa to breed and give birth -a true wonder of nature.
We can arrange a boat trip for you to witness them up close, or you may prefer to watch them from your villa. With panoramic ocean views, every Machangulo Villa offers the best setting to experience this magical season with your family.
Little prepares you or this magical show.

Maputo National Park, which borders the southern edge of the Machangulo Nature Reserve has officially been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Maputo National Park has come a long way from its humble beginning as a small hunting area formed in 1932. Increasing awareness of the importance of biodiversity led it to be classified as the Maputo Special Reserve in 1969. Less than a decade later, Mozambique fell into a 15-year civil war that devastated local wildlife populations, driving some to extinction.

This international recognition highlights the extraordinary natural beauty and ecological importance of our region.

UNESCO indicated that Maputo Park features “diverse habitats, including lakes, lagoons, mangroves and coral reefs”, as well as long beaches, dunes, swamps, extensive wetlands and diverse grasslands, providing a habitat for a range of 5.000 species from southern Africa, from coastal forests to marine sanctuaries, from nesting sea turtles to roaming African elephants and from vibrant coral reefs to ancient mangrove systems.

We thank the Mozambican government, local communities, passionate conservationists, ANAC, TFCA, Peace Parks and everyone else who made this happen. Their dedication over the past decade helped restore wildlife, build vital infrastructure and strengthen park management -making this global recognition possible.

At Machangulo Villas, we are honoured to be part of this unique ecosystem. We invite you to experience it with us; to explore, connect and protect this rare piece of paradise, now proudly part of the UNESCO World Heritage family.

Welcome to Villa Coco:

Owned by the same team as Saudade this stunning beach villa is perfect for families or group looking for a luxury retreat by the sea. And trust us, we highly recommend staying here, because:

We love the infinity pool overlooking Bazaruto Archipelago, it’s pure magic from sunrise to sunset. The pool patio is where morning coffees tastes better and where the direct beach access leads you to the palm shaded palapa with sun loungers calling your name. We love the design of the house, where laid back beach living meets a gorgeous rattan style décor. We love the food of private chef Dito and his team, served in the tropical garden, where kids can roam free while the gown-ups sip wine and exhale.

With daily direct flights from Johannesburg to Vilanculos, you’ll be swapping city life for palm trees within 2 hours.

So, what are you waiting for? Get your clan together, book your ticket and let our team take care of the rest!

All-inclusive rates start from $430 pppn / minimum 6 guests

And the best part: Villa Coco is still available over New Year’s!
