Matt Ketchum of Akiyaz.io is seeing a shift in Japan’s akiya market, and this time it is coming from the owners themselves.

More Japanese owners are proactively looking for ways to deal with vacant properties rather than waiting for local governments or other parties to tell them what to do.

Matt says Akiyaz.io has recently been working with more owners as well as buyers, including people who have struggled to find a solution through the traditional routes.

He is optimistic that this could mean more owners taking action and potentially more properties becoming available to people who can actually use them.

If buying, investing, or owning property in Japan is on your radar, The Japan Real Estate Summit is coming to Tokyo International Forum Oct. 17-18 (Sat-Sun).

One financing conversation could completely change your property search in Japan.

Mark Drabkin of Yen Loans explains why buyers should understand their financing options before spending weeks looking at properties. Yen Loans, for example, finances qualifying condos but not houses. If you only find that out after viewing ten houses, you may have to start your search all over again.

Getting financing involved early also gives you a clearer idea of how much you may be able to borrow, so you can focus your property search on options that actually fit.

If buying, investing, or financing property in Japan is on your radar, The Japan Real Estate Summit is coming to Tokyo International Forum Oct. 17-18 (Sat-Sun).

What you see on a Japanese property portal is not always the full picture.

Matt Ketchum of Akiyaz.io explains why relying on a single listing from sites like At Home or SUUMO can mean missing information or even encountering manually entered errors in property details and pricing.

His point is not that you cannot search for properties yourself. It is that checking information across multiple sources can give you a much clearer picture of what you are actually looking at.

If buying or investing in property in Japan is on your radar, The Japan Real Estate Summit is coming to Tokyo International Forum Oct. 17-18 (Sat-Sun).

You don’t necessarily have to live in Japan to get financing for property here.

Mark Drabkin of Yen Loans explains how they provide Japanese Yen mortgages to non resident property buyers, including people who do not have a Japanese bank account or have never lived in Japan.

They also work with some foreign residents who cannot access financing through Japanese banks. Mark shares one example where Yen Loans provided ¥526 million in financing toward the purchase of a ¥1 billion apartment.

If buying, investing, or financing property in Japan is on your radar, The Japan Real Estate Summit is coming to Tokyo International Forum Oct. 17-18 (Sat-Sun).
