We’re moving to Grenada! 🇬🇩
Even writing those words still feels surreal.
For 26 years, Grenada was the home I carried with me while building a life abroad - in my accent, my memories, and the little habits that never quite left. For Gordana, it became a place she fell in love with one visit at a time, until it began to feel like home to her too. Now, with our little one, we’re taking the leap and making it home for all three of us.
This decision has been years in the making. In 2019, we welcomed our daughter and lost my father almost in the same breath. Joy and grief arrived together that year, leaving us with deeper questions about family, presence, purpose, and the life we truly wanted to build.
It’s easy to say, “We’re moving back home.” But the reality comes with its share of challenges. It requires careful planning, significant financial preparation, and even more consideration when moving with a young child. Fortunately, Grenada offers valuable concessions to returning nationals, which can help make the transition a little easier.
That’s why we’ve chosen to share this journey openly and honestly - the successes, the setbacks, and everything we learn along the way. We hope our experiences will help others considering a similar move and create a supportive community of fellow Just Come Backs (JCBs) where we can learn from, inspire, and encourage one another.
This is more than a move. It’s a homecoming, a reset, and the opening chapter of a new life for the McBarnette family. 🏡❤️
