Top tips for travelling to Tuscany with young children, from our team who have actually done it
🍕 Feeding children is often easier than you might think. Whilst dedicated children's menus aren't that common, pizza and pasta are everywhere, and restaurants are usually very happy to prepare a smaller portion or something a little simpler if needed. Just ask.
🛺 Pack a lightweight, foldable buggy if you can. Cobbled streets and narrow lanes can make things a bit challenging, but we managed to get ours around most towns without too much trouble. The upside is that many historic centres are largely traffic-free, so children can enjoy exploring safely.
🏡 Consider staying in a villa. The extra space, flexibility and ability to prepare your own meals can make a huge difference when travelling as a family. All of our villas provide a cot and high chair, and up to two infants stay free of charge.
🎠 Most towns have a playground, although they're not always obvious. They're often tucked away from busy roads and, in our experience, surprisingly quiet.
🍇 Don't write off w**e tasting. Many w**eries offer experiences that include food or snacks, and some are wonderfully relaxed environments for families. We loved Casanuova di Ama for exactly that reason.
❤️ Most importantly, Tuscany is incredibly child-friendly. We were welcomed everywhere we went, including places we'd usually think of as more adult-focused. It's one of the reasons we keep recommending it as a family holiday destination.

🍃 Olive Harvest Season in Tuscany 🫒

Across Tuscany, olive harvest season is now in full swing. From mid-October through November, olives are carefully picked and rushed to the local mills, where they are transformed into olio nuovo - the season’s first fresh olive oil. And once you’ve tasted it, it’s easy to understand why locals look forward to it every year. 💚

Fresh from the press, the oil is vibrant green, wonderfully aromatic, and bursting with flavour - fruity, peppery, and beautifully intense. One of the best ways to enjoy it is the simplest: drizzled over toasted Tuscan bread with a pinch of salt. This beloved local treat is known as fettunta.

For many families and small producers, the olive harvest remains one of the most cherished traditions of the Tuscan autumn. Nets are spread beneath the trees, olives are gathered by hand, and the anticipation begins for the first taste of the new oil.

If you're visiting Tuscany at this time of year, keep an eye out for olio nuovo. Many w**eries, olive estates, and traditional mills sell their freshly pressed oil directly to visitors, and some even offer tastings during the harvest season.

Have you ever tried olio nuovo?

One of our favourite things about staying in a Tuscan villa would be a trip to the local market.

Picking up fresh bread, ripe tomatoes, local cheese and a few things that catch your eye, then heading back to the villa to put together an easy lunch outside.

It’s a lovely way to try local ingredients, and if you discover a particularly good pecorino or olive oil, you can always bring some home with you.

Add a sunny terrace, a good bottle of w**e and nowhere else you need to be that afternoon, and you have a pretty lovely way to spend a day in Tuscany.

Sometimes, the best holiday moments are the simple ones.

A little slice of Chianti to call your own

Picture slow mornings overlooking rolling vineyards, lazy afternoons by your own infinity pool and evenings spent sipping a glass of local w**e as the Tuscan sun sets. ☀️🍷

Welcome to Villa Vinsantaia, a charming hideaway on the edge of the pretty village of San Sano, in the heart of the Chianti Classico w**e region.

https://www.to-tuscany.com/villavinsantaia/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=villa_visit_2027&utm_content=villa_vinsantaia

With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, it’s ideal for a romantic escape for two or a small family with two young children.

Take a dip in your private infinity pool, enjoy leisurely lunches on the shaded terrace or wander into the village for a meal at the local restaurant. And with beautiful hilltop villages, renowned w**eries and scenic country roads all around, there’s plenty to explore at your own pace.
