Warning - a reflective post of some length!!
I almost forgot as this has become a natural part of my life now!
On occasion it still feels strange but that is not surprising...I spent a lot longer drinking than I have not.
People often ask me whether I will drink again and my answer is, "I have absolutely no idea."
If people had asked me whether I would ever stop drinking for this amount of time when I did drink, I would have looked at them as if they were slightly tipsy themselves.!!
What is interesting is the correlation of the last 54 months with things that have subsequently come into my life.
Two of the biggest of those things are starting my estate agency business and the journey I have taken with my fitness, including multiple trips to Thailand to train muay thai, HIIT and cross fit, cold water swimming and regular visits every week to my local gym.
On the agenda are learning to run so I can do more fitness events and triathlons - finishing the same day I start them!!
These things and more are ongoing endeavours. Will I be successful in them? - well that depends on how you define success I guess.
Experiences have taught me..including issues with my own mental health..that there are always bumps in the road...some a whole lot bigger than others, but an expression I really like is: "Overcome or become".
For me part of "success" is starting in the first place. You cannot finish what you do not start. You cannot grow if you do not plant the seed and you cannot evolve, meet new people and have new experiences if you forever do the same.
I have been fortunate to live an incredible life before sobriety. I actually plan to collate it all in word some day....maybe "The Hangover 4" is in there somewhere - that would be ironic!!
I hope to have an equally incredible life going forward in whatever form that takes🙏
