🦌 🍂 Autumn on the Estate

Autumn brings a distinctive sound to the Deer Park at Powis as the annual deer rut reaches its height.

As stags compete for the attention of the hinds, their deep calls carry across the parkland beneath Powis Castle and Garden NT/YG Castell a Gardd Powis, offering visitors a chance to witness a natural spectacle that has unfolded here for generations.

If you are visiting us or Powis Castle and Gardens, please keep to the permissive driveway through the estate, and remember that deer are wild animals and should always be observed quietly and from a safe, respectful distance.

🧑‍🎄 Meet Father Christmas at Ludlow Castle 🧑‍🎄

There are certain traditions that quietly mark the arrival of Christmas, and a visit to Father Christmas at Ludlow Castle is one of them.

On selected dates this December, families are invited to step into the festive surroundings of the Castle, where Father Christmas will be waiting to welcome young visitors. Each child will enjoy a personal visit, time for a photograph, and a special gift to take home.

Throughout the Castle, seasonal decorations, children's activities and warming refreshments will add to the Christmas atmosphere.

Tickets are now on sale to meet Father Christmas on the 5th-6th, 12th-13th and 19th-20th December, with bookable times throughout the day from 10am – 3.50pm.

As Welshpool prepares to celebrate its history and heritage during the Visit Welshpool Open Doors weekend, we are pleased to support the organisations helping visitors discover the incredible history and character of the town and its surrounding landscape.

Visitors using the permissive driveway through the Powis Estates Deer Park to walk or drive to Powis Castle and Garden NT/YG Castell a Gardd Powis may be fortunate enough to observe the deer as the annual rut gets underway.

Should you encounter any deer, please do admire them from a safe distance and avoid disturbing the herd. To help us protect both livestock and wildlife, we kindly remind all visitors that dogs are not permitted anywhere within the Deer Park.

🍴Ludlow Food Festival - 11th, 12th & 13th September 🍴

Ludlow Food Festival returns this weekend, hosted by Ludlow Castle, celebrating the rich food and drink heritage of the Marches in one of the country's most distinctive historic settings.

Now in its 32nd year, the festival continues to champion local producers, artisan makers and talented chefs. Visitors can enjoy live fire cooking demonstrations, explore more than 100 exhibitors and vendors, and take part in talks, workshops, food trails, feasts, family activities and evening entertainment.

Against the backdrop of the castle and the beautiful market town beyond, the festival offers a chance to discover the people, produce and traditions that shape this corner of the countryside.

🦌The Rutting Season Approaches 🦌

As we move towards autumn, the deer in our park are entering one of the most significant times of the year - the rutting season.

Between late September and early November, you may spot stags sparring with one another, testing their strength and establishing their place within the herd. Shorter days and changing seasonal conditions encourage increased movement within the herd, with males roaming more widely and paying close attention to the whereabouts of their competitors.

Please observe the deer quietly from a safe distance and give them the space they need during this important time of year 🦌.
