With its crooked timber-framed houses, centuries of history and endless charm around every corner, it’s easy to see why this Suffolk village is considered one of England’s most beautiful.

5 interesting facts about Lavenham...

1) It was once one of the richest places in England | Thanks to its booming wool trade, Lavenham became one of the wealthiest settlements in medieval England, even paying more tax than cities such as York and Lincoln at its peak.

2) Its famous wonky buildings survived by accident | When the wool trade declined in the 16th century, many residents could no longer afford to modernise their timber-framed houses. As a result, hundreds of medieval buildings were preserved rather than rebuilt.

3) Lavenham has more than 300 historic buildings | The village is one of the best-preserved medieval settlements in Britain, with over 300 listed and historically significant buildings lining its streets.

4) It has a connection to Harry Potter | Lavenham's medieval streets and architecture were used as a filming location for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. The De Vere House is widely recognised as the exterior of Harry Potter's birthplace in Godric's Hollow.

5) Its church has one of the tallest village church towers in Britain| The spectacular Church of St Peter and St Paul was completed in 1525 and features a tower standing around 138 feet (42 metres) high.
