👻 Would you buy a house if it came with a resident ghost?
This Halloween, we’re taking a little detour into Reading’s more mysterious property history…
Watlington House on Watlington Street dates back to 1688 and is one of Reading’s oldest surviving buildings.
But apparently, not everybody who has lived there has actually left. 👀
One of its best-known former residents was Captain Edward Purvis, who lived at Watlington House from 1794. He was said to enjoy sitting at the window in his red military uniform, smoking his pipe.
And according to local legend, his ghost has since been spotted doing exactly the same thing. 👻
There have also been tales over the years of unexplained footsteps and other strange goings-on inside the building.
So, an important question for Halloween…
🏠 Beautiful historic Reading property
📍 Bags of character
👻 One former occupant who may still be in residence
Would that be a deal-breaker… or would you consider the ghost part of the fixtures and fittings? 😂
Happy Halloween from WhiteKnights! 🎃👻
