🎄 8 Weeks to Christmas! The Toy Cupboard!

My weekly countdown to Christmas continues, with a 5 to 10 minute decluttering prompt each week to help get our homes ready for the festive season, one area at a time.

As it's half term, this week feels like the perfect opportunity to have a little look through the toy cupboard!

It's a chance to see what the children have actually been playing with during the holidays, what they've grown out of and what might be ready for a new home.

A few things to think about:

Which toys have been played with again and again?

Are there toys they've outgrown or no longer use?

Could some toys be donated to a charity shop for another child to enjoy?

Can you create a little more space for the presents that might be arriving this Christmas?

It's also a lovely opportunity to notice what your children are enjoying at the moment. Their current interests might give you a few ideas when thinking about Christmas presents!

Follow along next week for another 5 to 10 minute Christmas decluttering prompt!

If you'd like a little more support getting your home ready for Christmas, my 2 Hours Better professional decluttering and organising sessions offer focused, practical support in your home or virtually.

🎄 9 weeks until Christmas! Let's make room for the mince pies!

Have you started getting your home ready for Christmas yet?

I'm sharing a weekly Christmas decluttering countdown, with a 5 to 10 minute prompt each week to help you prepare your home a little at a time.

We're not going to completely declutter or organise an area in 10 minutes. We're making a little dent each week, creating some breathing space and making room for the extra things that Christmas brings.

Week 9: Kitchen & store cupboards.

This week, we're taking a look inside our kitchen and store cupboards.

- Check for out-of-date food.

- Identify unopened food we won't use (that's still in date) that could be donated to a local food bank.

- Find food we need to use up before buying more.

A little space now could mean somewhere to put the mince pies, chocolates and other Christmas treats, rather than having them sitting on the worktop... looking us! I don't know about you but if they're out on the worktop I'm much more likely to eat them!

A few minutes here and there can make a difference, and every little bit of progress counts.
Follow along for a new Christmas decluttering prompt each week, as we work towards a little more space and a calmer home for Christmas.

I'm Helen, a Professional Declutterer and Organiser. I support families to create calmer, more functional homes without pressure or perfection.

In Person sessions across South East London and Kent.

Virtual decluttering support across the UK and Internationally.

🎄 10 Fridays to Christmas- Week 10: Fridge Declutter

I can't believe it's Friday again already! and we're another week closer to Christmas!

This week’s Christmas declutter prompt is spending 10 to 15 mins in our fridge.

- Check dates on food, sauces and condiments.

- Clear out anything that's out of date.

- See what we've already got in your fridge.

- Make a plan to use up food over the coming weeks.

So we can free up space for the seasonal condiments and food shopping in the lead up to Christmas.

I know I've got condiments and sauces in my fridge that need checking, so this is a good reminder for me, too!

You don't need a perfectly organised fridge or hours of time to make a difference. It's about gradually working through different areas of your home so you can feel a little more prepared for Christmas.

Follow along next Friday for the next prompt in our countdown to Christmas!

If you'd like more personalised support to declutter your home before Christmas and the end of the year, my 2 Hours Better Sessions offer focused, practical support tailored to your home and priorities.

I offer In Person Sessions in SE London and Kent and Virtual Sessions across the UK and Internationally. Send me a message to arrange a free, no-obligation Inspiration Call.

“It just felt so good once it was done.”

That's what my recent client said after our decluttering session.

We turned a cluttered room into a usable space, and she could feel the difference.

We often wonder how we can fit decluttering into everyday life when we work, have family and everything else that already fills our diaries.

That's why I offer 2 Hours Better sessions.

Two focused hours with me alongside you, providing practical support, guidance and accountability.

We focus on an area where we can make a real difference, clearing visible spaces that have been bothering you, reclaiming a room or making a space work better for everyday life.

We'll work through decisions together and explore systems and strategies you can try to create a space works for you and your family now.

When our session ends, the aim is to leave the area we've worked on usable, with no piles or unfinished jobs from our session left for you to deal with later.

You can carry on with your usual day knowing you've made progress and created a space that feels clearer, calmer and works better for everyone.

A set amount of time, a clear focus and someone alongside you to help you keep moving forward.

I offer In Person sessions in South East London and Kent, and Virtual Decluttering and Organising support across the UK and Internationally.

Want to make a start? Message me to arrange your free 30 minute Inspiration Call.

MYTH: I "should" be able to declutter on my own.

TRUTH: You could, but the key is you don't have to. You don't have to know where and how to start... you don't have to know what process is going to work for you.

As the seasons change and Christmas gets closer, we might be looking around our homes and wishing there was a little more space.

Space for Christmas presents, decorations, food in the freezer, or simply a bit more breathing room in everyday life.

Perhaps you'd like to finish the year feeling you've made some progress at home.

When work, family and everything else fill our days, decluttering can easily slip down the list.

It's the decisions, the energy involved and working out where to begin. Sometimes, getting started is the hardest part.

That's where having someone alongside you can make a difference.

A date in the diary gives us a starting point.

Having someone working alongside us helps us stay focused, work through decisions at our own pace and see progress as we go.

My 2 Hours Better Sessions are designed to fit around real life, whether that's a couple of hours during the school day or time set aside while you're working from home.

We focus on the areas that matter most to you, with no piles left to sort out later.

You don't have to wait until January to make a start.

There's still time to make a difference in your home before Christmas and the end of the year, one focused session at a time.

If you'd like some personalised support with decluttering before the festive season, I'd love to chat.

Send me a message, or book a free 30-minute Inspiration Call (link in bio) to explore what's possible.

Monday Top Tip: Create a little space for yourself this week and appreciate the changing season.

It was World Mental Health Day at the weekend, and whilst I usually share a decluttering tip on a Monday, this week I'd like to encourage you to do something a little different...

When our homes feel overwhelming and our To Do Lists are long, it's to step away for a little while.

Even if it's just a walk around the garden or a walk around the block, create a little time and space to be outside this week.

Notice the changing colours of the leaves, listen to the birds singing, take a moment to notice the season changing.

Give ourselves a little time away from the house, the jobs that need doing and all those visual reminders of what needs to be done.

Being outside can help us pause, be present in the moment, lift our mood and gain a little perspective.

You could go out with the children, a friend or on your own the choice is yours.

My tip for this week isn't about decluttering a space in your home. Create an opportunity to be out in nature, notice and see the changes in nature as we start to see Autumn begin.

World Mental Health Day...

Making space for more of what matters.

When I started decluttering my home 6 years ago, I never imagined how much it would change my life...

Over time, I've lost 4½ stone and kept it off (well most of it!) for four years. I exercise regularly (spin classes for me), enjoy two book clubs, joined a choir, go for regular walks in nature and have more energy to spend time in my garden. I even created space to leave my 20 career in healthcare to start my own business.

By having more physical space around me at home, it's created more space in my life for the hobbies and activities I hadn't even considered or even known was possible before.

Don't get me wrong, there's still plenty to do around my home! Decluttering alone hasn't made everything perfect but my home feels lighter and easier to manage and so does my everyday life.

Our homes and our mental wellbeing are connected in ways that can be difficult to put into words. When we're constantly moving things around, searching for what we need or feeling that there's always something else to deal with, it takes up time, energy and headspace.

Decluttering won't solve every challenge we face with our mental health, but creating a home that works better for us can make room for other things that support our mental health and wellbeing.

I work with clients to create spaces that support their (and their family's) everyday lives, so there's more room for the things they want to do, the people they love and the activities that bring them joy.

My approach is calm, patient andbnon-judgemental. You remain in control of your belongings, and we work together at a pace that works for you.

This World Mental Health Day, I'm reflecting on what decluttering has made possible for me and my family and why I love helping others to create a little more space in their lives too.

What would you love to have a little more space, time or energy for?

🎄 11 weeks until Christmas! Week 1 of our Christmas Decluttering Countdown!

Every Friday, I’ll be sharing a 5–10 minute decluttering prompt to help us make a little progress and feel more prepared for Christmas, without putting everyday life on hold.

This week: Have a look in your freezer!

Spend 5–10 minutes checking what’s in there.

What food do you have that you could use up over the next few weeks?

Is there anything out of date that needs to go?

Could you make a list of what you have and plan a few meals around it?

A little planning now can help reduce food waste and free up valuable freezer space for your Christmas turkey and other festive food later on.

We don't need a perfectly organised freezer, and we don't need to spend hours sorting it out. This is about making a little progress now, so we're not trying to do everything at once in December.

Every little step counts!

Will you join me for this week's 5–10 minute prompt? Let me know in the comments if you're going to have a look in your freezer!

“She has such a calming aura about her and it made things almost seem easier.”

I think this is such an important part of decluttering support.

For me, creating a calm space allows us the space to think clearly.

Before becoming a Professional Declutterer and Organiser, I spent 20 years working as a Community Adult Speech and Language Therapist.

Listening carefully and being led by client's wishes were key.

Allowing clients time to express themselves.

Not rushing to fill a silence.

Making sure people felt heard and understood.

Aa well as supporting them to find their way forward.

Those things are still very important to me now.

When I'm working with a client, I want to be the guide, not the lead.

You are the expert in you, your home, your belongings and your family. Most of all you know how you all live in your home the best.

My role is to listen, ask helpful questions, share my knowledge and the decluttering process, and give you the time and space to make decisions.

When we feel listened to and not pressured, everything changes.

We can think more clearly. We start to see what's working and decisions start to feel more manageable.

It's exactly the experience I want my Professional Decluttering and Organising support to provide.

No pressure or judgement.

Calm, patient, practical support to help you make immediate progress.

I offer 2 Hours Better sessions, both In Person and Virtually, designed to fit around work, family and everyday life.

If you think having a calm, supportive guide alongside you could help you make an impact on your home, I'd love to chat. You can message me directly or book your free 30 minute Inspiration Call on the Calendy link in my bio.
