Over the last year, 999 Club supported 129 Members to move into stable housing.

Finding a home is an important milestone, but it is not always the end of the support someone needs.

Moving can bring more stability and a new set of everyday decisions: bills and letters, new routines, maintaining a home and becoming familiar with a new neighbourhood.

Through our Move+ service, we work alongside Members as they settle into their homes, build confidence and progress towards the long-term future they want.

Your support helps us continue working with people facing homelessness before, during and after a move.

Who are the people who inspire you?

For Black History Month, our champion Lianne Sanderson shares some of her Black icons and reflects on what connects them: their ability to inspire others and use their influence to support their communities.

That commitment to community is also why Lianne is a proud supporter of 999 Club.

We are grateful to Lianne for sharing her reflections and for supporting our work alongside people facing homelessness in South East London.

Who is one of your Black icons, and why? Let us know in the comments.

For Black History Month, our champion Lianne Sanderson shares some of the Black icons who have inspired her.

Their achievements matter, but so does the way they use their influence to inspire others and support their communities. That same commitment to community is one of the reasons Lianne is a proud supporter of 999 Club.

Thank you, Lianne, for sharing your reflections and for standing alongside our Members.

Black people in England are almost four times as likely to face statutory homelessness.

This gap is not simply about individual circumstances. Research points to racial discrimination and long-standing inequalities in housing and employment. Lower average incomes, less family wealth, discrimination when looking for work or somewhere to live, and the shortage of affordable, secure homes can all increase the risk of homelessness.

Some people told researchers that they felt they had to change their names or accents to avoid discrimination when seeking housing or support. Nobody should have to hide who they are to be treated fairly.

Black History Month is a time to celebrate Black lives, achievements and contributions. It is also an opportunity to understand the inequalities that continue today.

At 999 Club, we work to provide a welcoming and inclusive space where Members are listened to, treated with respect and supported as individuals.

People come to us for many different reasons. Someone might need a hot meal, a shower, help with housing or benefits, urgent mental health support or simply a safe place to sit and talk.

The Gateway is our physical hub, where our services, Intervention team and volunteers work together. After an initial welcome and basic support, Members can talk through their situation and decide on the next steps with our team.

If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness, our Gateway is open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 3pm, at 21 Deptford Broadway, SE8 4PA.

Did you know we provide in-house NHS services? 🩺

Ill health can be a cause as well as a consequence of homelessness. It's a vicious cycle.

We see it every day in the percentage of people coming to our Gateway with health issues.

Yet many people facing homelessness are still turned away from GP services because of their lack of a permanent address.

🧑‍⚕️ Thanks to our partnership with an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, we offer on-site healthcare, GP registration, and specialist referrals. Ensuring that local people facing homelessness receive the care they need.

Our vision is that anyone facing or experiencing homelessness in South East London can access safe, stable accommodation.

But what does this actually involve?

🏘️ While general narratives tend to focus on 'more housing' as the solution, the reality is more complicated.

Various and overlapping issues can trap you in homelessness, from rent increases to job loss, mental illness, and relationship breakdowns.

That's why we designed our services to address the diverse needs and experiences of our members. That way, they have the best chance of leaving for good.

Whether you’re fundraising, volunteering, donating, or helping to spread the word, your support of our work brings us closer to achieving our mission. 🤝
