The loft is taking shape.

We’re back on site in South London, following this loft conversion through from the early preparation works to the finished space.

When we first started, the focus was on preparing the existing roof and getting everything ready for the structural steelwork. Since then, the steels have gone in, the new floor structure has been completed, and the dormer shell has now fully taken shape.

Roofing works have also started, helping to close the structure in, and the new staircase has just been installed. That means you can now walk from the existing house straight into the new loft space, which is always a big moment in the build.

There’s still plenty to do, but the finished layout is really starting to become clear.

Good planning shapes the whole project.

This project has started with very collaborative early conversations, helped by the clients’ own background in council planning. They already understand how much detail sits behind the finished result, from drawings and approvals through to the decisions made before construction begins.

At this stage, we’re reviewing the drawings together and talking through the ideas properly. If we spot a way to improve the layout or make something work better in practice, we raise it and work through it with the client.

The aim is to make sure the finished home works well for the family living in it, not just that it follows the drawings.

Before a room feels finished.

This is the delivery stage of a refurbishment, where coordination matters as much as the visible work. Floors are protected, materials and tools are in place, and the team is continuing the job while details are being reviewed on site.

Our role is to stay close to that process. We coordinate the work, manage contractors, resolve issues as they come up and keep homeowners updated through regular contact by phone, email and dedicated project WhatsApp groups.

It is not just about the finished room. It is about the care, communication and attention that happen before that point.

Trust starts before the work begins.

Choosing a builder is about more than looking at photos of finished work. Homeowners should still do their own research, check reviews, look at previous projects and ask questions.

That is why being a member of the Federation of Master Builders matters to us. FMB membership is not just a paid logo. Builders have to go through a vetting process and meet recognised standards.

This is where plans become practical.

Reviewing the design inside the property helps connect the early ideas with the construction work taking shape on site. At this stage, the focus is on making sure the direction is clear, the building work is coordinated and the finished rooms will suit the homeowner’s needs.

The loft is taking shape.

We’re back on site in South London, and there’s been a lot of progress since the last update. The roofing works are now complete, which is a major step in getting the new loft weather tight.

We’ve installed three Velux windows to the front of the loft, along with a flat roof skylight for the new bathroom, helping to bring plenty of natural light into the new spaces.

First fix electrics and plumbing were completed over the weekend, so the main services are now in place before everything starts getting closed up. This week is focused on dry lining, insulation and boarding, ready for the next stage.

Next week, we’ll be reconfiguring some of the first floor walls and bedroom areas before the plasterers are due to start in early September. Once plastering is complete, we’ll move into second fix, with electrics, plumbing, tiling and air conditioning all coming together.

More room, without losing connection.

On this Battersea mansard roof project, the new loft level was shaped around everyday living. The finished roof exterior shows the added space from outside, while the completed bathroom and bright staircase show how that space works inside the home.

Clean lines, timeless finishes and a practical bathroom layout help make the most of the new level. The light-filled staircase is just as important, connecting the loft back to the rest of the house so it feels generous, calm and usable.

The cheapest quote isn’t the whole picture.

When you’re comparing three quotes, it’s worth looking beyond the three prices in front of you.

Look at how long each company has been operating, the projects they’ve actually completed, and what their reviews say. Pay close attention to comments about communication too, not just the finished result.

Accreditations and insurance matter, and FMB membership adds another layer of reassurance because there’s a recognised organisation behind it. But ultimately, it comes down to the whole picture and whether you trust the person sitting in front of you.
