Knowledge Quarter Liverpool KQ Liverpool is a world leading, 450-acre urban innovation district.

KQ Liverpool is a 450-acre urban innovation district and is home to some of the world’s most influential players in science, health, technology, education, music and the performing arts. With over £1bn of new developments currently underway – and a further £1bn in the pipeline – we plan increase the city’s employment figures, improve graduate retention and attraction rates and establish Liverpool at the forefront of the Northern Powerhouse. This unique mix of science, medicine and culture, combined with KQ Liverpool’s stunning architecture and its proximity to the heart of the city, has already attracted the Royal College of Physicians who have chosen KQ Liverpool as the home for their new Northern Centre of Excellence. The KQ Liverpool team is tasked with defining, creating and promoting the place and occupies the dynamic space between ambition and delivery. We believe that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, which is why we bring together the city’s key partners to collaborate in a creative environment, allowing us to not only discover and present opportunities but to respond to them quickly. We provide consistent messaging, a single point of contact for investors and businesses and through the ‘power of place’ foster clustering, networking and knowledge transfer.

✨ KQ LIVERPOOL IS 10 TODAY! ✨

Time flies when you're having fun, and what a quick decade it has been!

First launched on 20th October 2016 at the Royal College of Physicians' London HQ, Knowledge Quarter Liverpool has since grown into an award-winning, world-leading innovation district.

Over the past 10 years, we have supported hundreds of businesses, inspired thousands of young people, and become a vast, inclusive network driving change and creating opportunities on a global scale.

We're delighted to have had Colin Sinclair as our CEO since Day 1, alongside Sally Bloor and Trish Wallace who remain integral members of the team today. Their vision to 'do things differently' has helped shape the forward-thinking organisation we are today.

We'd like to thank all of our Board members for their invaluable input over the years, working together for the greater good of our innovation district, as well as everyone who has attended our events, provided professional support through one of our programmes, or donated to our charity fundraising initiatives.

Looking ahead, we're on track to deliver the ambitious actions set out in our 2040 Vision, undertake the next phase of our KQ Futures and KQ CLICK programmes, and enhance our international innovation framework even further.

GAME, SET AND MATCH! 🎾 This weekend, our ACE Skills Project Coordinator, Codi Ellis, completed her Charity TENnis Challenge!

For #10 hours straight, Codi was serving, volleying, rallying, and running her way around a tennis court. We LOVE her commitment to the cause, can't FAULT her dedication, and certainly won't LET this achievement pass without shouting about it!

💛 This challenge formed part of our 10th Anniversary fundraising campaign, and has added another £350 to our fundraising total, which will support Alfie's Squad, Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, and The Brain Charity.

🌍 Two new international partnerships. One ambition: help businesses grow in both directions.

KQ Liverpool has signed collaborations with the T-Hub in Hyderabad 🇮🇳 and The Guinness Enterprise Centre Centre in Dublin 🇮🇪, creating reciprocal links with two of the world’s leading innovation ecosystems.

Here’s how it works:

🔹 Landing in Liverpool – Eligible founders from Dublin and Hyderabad get soft landing workspace through Sciontec, giving them an immediate UK base and a direct route into the city region’s innovation community.

🔹 Growing overseas – Businesses in Sciontec’s community get reciprocal soft landing support at GEC and T-Hub to test new markets and build international connections.

Our CEO Colin Sinclair said “We want to create a two-way pipeline for growth, helping our businesses reach international markets while attracting investment and high-value jobs to the city region."

This is just the start. Our 2040 Vision sets out the ambition to build a wider network of international landing pads – so Liverpool businesses can go global, and global innovators can land, invest and grow here.

🏆 Liverpool has been named one of the world’s first WIPO Cities of Innovation.

Today in Geneva, the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO named Liverpool a winner of its inaugural City of Innovation award, alongside Shanghai and Charleroi.

Liverpool was selected from 15 finalists worldwide. The winning bid was led by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool), Liverpool City Council and Sci-Tech Daresbury. It set out a bold, inclusive vision for unlocking the creative and growth potential of our communities and businesses across the whole city region.

It caps a remarkable run, less than a year ago, Liverpool was named European Capital of Innovation runner-up, and in 2024 the UN named it the world’s first Accelerator City for climate action.

👏 Liverpool is the only UK city to be shortlisted for the United Nations agency World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) inaugural ‘City of Innovation’ award, alongside 14 other cities!

The award is open to cities across all 194 World Intellectual Property Organization Member States. It recognises cities for what they have already achieved and for the commitments they make to foster innovation and creativity over the year ahead.

Liverpool's bid is led by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Liverpool City Council, Knowledge Quarter Liverpool and Sci-Tech Daresbury. It commits to a "smart specialisation" approach, focusing the region's distinctive strengths on solving societal challenges locally and globally.

This follows Liverpool being named the third most innovative city in Europe in the iCapital European Capital of Innovation awards last December.
The winner will be announced in Geneva on 12 October. 🤞
