I've said before that there are benefits of having a handyman do things for you instead of a specialist in one trade. I'm certainly not knocking on other trades!
Let me explain, not only did I replace the sink and pedestal in this en suite, but I also put up blinds and toilet roll holders in the en suite, bathroom and downstairs loo. As well as hung a picture above the staircase.
So it's just one pair of feet walking through your door to do the various jobs you have to do in your home instead of multiple tradesman, with different rates, possible call out fees and minimum charges.
So what I lack in decades of experience in just one trade, I make up for in versatility.
This customer is certainly happy with that, and has me booked in for another two visits in the future to continue working through their to do list.

No, not de ja vu! Another worktop replacement; this time for a customer who is moving to Exeter from South Devon and wants to get the home sorted before she moves in.
Fairly straightforward this one, she wanted to bridge the gap where the cooker once was as she plans of using an induction cook top and an airfryer as an experiment to see if she can prepare her meals without a traditional cooker.
4.5 hours to replace this worktop

I previously boxed in the boiler for this customer to try and enhance the look of this kitchen in the hope of attracting a buyer for this flat in Exeter.
The estate agent recommended changing the worktop too so that a buyer didn't feel like they would need to do it right away.
The customer ordered a couple of Ikea worktops and I swapped out the old ones that had vinyl wrap applied for these veneer worktops.
I like the oak colour with the green, I think it really goes nicely together.
I added some quadrant trim to the back of the worktop to take up the space between the top and the bottom edge of the tiles as the new worktop was thinner than the one that was replaced. Nicer than piling in a load of silicone sealant to bridge the gap!
I also painted the edge of the hob black instead of the faded yellowing white colour that was there at the beginning of the day.
The customer is thrilled with the result.
6.5 hours to do all this.

This customer had a media wall built by someone else and asked me to add acoustic panels to it.
We agreed to add some timber to the openings in the wall to give the edges of the panels something to butt up to and finish it off nicely.
I like how this turned out. It took me over twice as long as I expected it to however.
I did give the customer a discount on the labour though as it would have been a lot higher than we spoke about when I went to quote the job.
One of the benefits of being my own boss, is having discretion over every aspect.

Sometimes I have to remember that Rome wasn't built in a day. I trimmed three doors and put up 3 shelves before starting this built in cupboard in an alcove next to a chimney in their living room.
There will be doors added to the bottom, along with some other finishing touches...
I just don't like walking away from a job that isn't completed. But after arriving at 9am and getting to 6pm, I had to admit that the quality of my work would slip as I got more tired.
They were already booked in for a few weeks later so I knew I was already coming back and that I would complete it then.
Still, it makes my bones uneasy leaving something unfinished!

Having just moved into this home, this family wanted to add a shower to their bath without having to do a full remodel of the room. The boxing at the tap end of the bath meant it wasn't a straight forward job of just adding a riser, and they didn't want to lose the feel of space in the room by extending the boxing up.
So we agreed a plan, build a small stud wall to support a bath shower screen, and then make the walls more waterproof by adding shower panels above the tiles.
The customer chose to go for grey instead of trying to colour match with white, and finding it doesn't quite go; the obvious colour difference between grey and white means it is a choice, instead of a poor match.
I'm really happy with how it turned out. And once the new tap is installed, the family will have the ability to shower in this bathroom instead of only having a bath.

I was asked to build a window box seat in the bay window of this home.
The radiator posed a little complication, but we decided to leave space either side of the backrest so that they could still get to the valves both sides and heat can rise.
They don't tend to use the radiator in this room as their new build home retains so much heat they don't feel the need to heat the room. So the loss of air circulation around this radiator wasn't a big concern; having the seating and storage was more of a plus for them that outweighed the loss of the radiator.
I added some detail to the front at thir request, they will add some drawer handles to make it look like there are drawers, but the storage is accessed from above. Once they paint it, it'll look great with a bespoke cushion and some throw pillows.

Acoustic panels are still trending at the moment, and honestly I think they look good in a modern home. Plus, I quite like installing them.
I did 2 rooms for this customer and they love how it looks.

Sourcing like for like materials can be really tricky when trying to fill in something like a gap in a skirting board where a gas fire used to be.

Not 100% faithful to the existing skirting board, but with a coat of paint it should look close enough that it doesn't attract the eye.

The customer has someone else scheduled to paint the room, so I'm looking forward to when she next has me back to see how well it blends into the room once decorated.
