We’re delighted to share that Tynecastle, Fern House Student Accommodation, has been named Residential Regeneration Project of the Year at the Herald Property Awards.

Heritage architecture, modern student living and sustainability come together at the newly completed transformation of the former Tynecastle High School.

The 473-bed University of Edinburgh student residence is entirely fossil-fuel-free and the retained historic building has also been comprehensively upgraded to achieve an EPC A rating.

A car-free approach, extensive cycle parking, landscaped communal spaces, a community garden and dedicated charity space further extend the benefits of the development into the surrounding Gorgie community.

A project that demonstrates how a much-loved historic building can be sensitively repurposed to meet the demands of a more sustainable future.

A landmark handover for S1 Developments this month, marking the completion of the transformation of the historic former Tynecastle High School in Gorgie.

Delivered by S1 Developments as both developer and main contractor, the project has transformed this much-loved Edinburgh landmark into a 473-bed student residence for the University of Edinburgh, completed on time and handed over this September.

At the heart of the development, the historic school façade has been carefully retained, complemented by new buildings and a collegiate-style landscaped courtyard.

A significant project for S1 Developments and a new chapter for one of Gorgie’s historic buildings sensitively repurposed for generations to come.

A huge thank you to our project partners and everyone involved in bringing this development through to completion.
