🎓 Moving into university this September?

Whether you're heading into halls for your first year or moving from student house to student house, a little preparation can make moving day much easier.

📦 Make an inventory so you know exactly what you're taking
🏷️ Label your boxes to make unpacking much quicker
🧳 Group similar items together so everything is easier to find
⚠️ Protect fragile belongings rather than hoping they'll survive the journey
🚫 Don't overpack boxes – they're harder to carry and more likely to break
🚚 Arrange moving help early if you're travelling a long way or have more than you can fit in the car

And one final tip: keep your essentials (charger, toiletries, important documents and a change of clothes) somewhere you can get to them straight away.

🏠 How long would it take you to save for your first home in London?

For a typical London renter, our latest analysis finds it could take a minimum of 6.1 years to save the upfront amount needed to buy an average first home.

That’s based on:

💷 £59,689 needed upfront
🏠 £2,268 average monthly rent
💰 Around £810 left each month after rent and tax
⏳ 73.7 months to reach the required amount

And that’s assuming every penny left after rent and tax could be saved, before accounting for food, bills, transport or other living costs.

Leasehold conveyancing can take around 3 weeks longer than freehold. But where does that extra time actually go?

Our analysis found a median timeframe of:

• 12 weeks for leasehold
• 9 weeks for freehold
• 3 weeks between the two

Conveyancing experts highlighted management packs, extra lease enquiries, managing agents or freeholders, and title issues as some of the stages where leasehold transactions can slow down.

Where are Brits moving to in 2026? 🌍

We analysed more than 13,000 international moves across 2025 and 2026 to see which destinations are proving most popular and how moving habits are changing.

- Spain remains the most popular destination, accounting for 13.9% of moves.

- Australia is now just behind at 13.6%, up from 10.9% in 2025.

- Canada is also gaining ground, climbing from ninth to sixth place as its share rises from 4.0% to 5.4%.

Meanwhile, several traditional European favourites, including Italy and Portugal, have seen their share fall.

How much does communication matter during conveyancing?

Our analysis found communication problems featured in 76% of poor conveyancing experiences, with:

• 53% mentioning slow responses or difficulty making contact
• 32% involving repeated chasing
• 29% mentioning poor or missing progress updates

Not every conveyancing delay can be avoided, but clearer updates can help buyers and sellers understand what’s holding things up, who needs to act and what happens next.
