New registration requirements for newly built homes in Ontario
If you’re thinking about a newly built home in Ontario, here’s an important update: starting January 1, 2027, all purchase agreements for new builds must be registered within 45 days. This change is part of the province’s home warranty program and helps protect buyers by making sure builders are properly licensed and keeping illegal sales in check. And if you’re worried about your deposit—good news. Even if things run late or a registration falls through the cracks, deposit protection remains in place. I always keep an eye on these shifts to help my clients—whether you’re a first-time buyer or planning your next investment—move forward with confidence and clarity.
