Things are taking shape at Darby’s Corner! Excavation is officially complete, and the tower crane is up on site. With the deep foundation work behind us, the site is shifting into vertical gear. Over the next few months, our construction team will be working upward through the underground parkade structure, with the goal of reaching grade before the holidays and kicking off building framing shortly after.

Hearing this from our residents makes everything we do worthwhile.

Moving into a new home can be an overwhelming experience, but creating a welcoming, seamless transition is always our top priority. A huge thank you to Brian and Holly for sharing their experience moving into səkʷíw:

"My husband and I just recently moved into səkʷiw at Keefe Creek in West Kelowna, and our experience here so far has been amazing.

We have been dealing with Abbey Ranseth, who has been wonderful to work with throughout the whole process, from the application phase to our actual move in. She has been very clear and has provided us with great communication and has been very quick to answer any questions we had.

Not only has Abbey been great, but the entire construction crew has been excellent, especially Ken and Art. They have been so helpful with any questions we had about the building and our unit. They have been extremely friendly and patient.

The finishes and quality of the home are extremely high end and the attention to detail is amazing. There were no shortcuts in this home. The builders clearly have great pride in this project and it really shows, from the landscaping, the exterior of the home, the interior, and the beautiful Indigenous touches they have incorporated throughout this project.

This is an extremely well thought out project, and I am very lucky to call this home."

We were deeply honored to host Charlene Belleau (Eaglestar Woman) for a powerful virtual learning session with the team earlier this week in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

A former Chief of Esk’etemc First Nation, former Chair of the First Nations Health Council, and residential school survivor, Charlene has spent decades advancing truth, justice, and healing. During our session, she shared her personal and professional journey, from the history and ongoing impacts of Indian Residential Schools in BC, to her vital work as a Senior Investigator on the Academy Award-nominated documentary Sugarcane.

We are profoundly grateful to Charlene for generously sharing her knowledge, lived experience, and guidance with our team as we reflect on truth-telling, accountability, and our ongoing commitment to reconciliation.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, Hungerford Properties pauses to honour the survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities forever impacted.

Reconciliation is not a single milestone, but an ongoing commitment to learning, listening, and taking meaningful action.

At Hungerford Properties, we recognize the deep responsibility we hold to understand the history of the lands where we live and work, and to cultivate genuine, lasting partnerships rooted in mutual respect and economic collaboration with Indigenous communities.

Today, we encourage our team, industry partners, and community members to wear orange, reflect on the legacy of the residential school system, and engage with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.

Our annual Hungerford Properties lawn bowling tournament was back, bringing the team together for an afternoon of friendly rivalry, great laughs, and plenty of "strategic" rolls on the green.

Congrats to this year’s tournament champions on earning ultimate office bragging rights, and a special shout out to Stanley Park Lawn Bowling volunteers for hosting us another year.
