Today marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: a day to remember the children who never returned home, honour Residential School Survivors, and reflect on the lasting impacts of colonial policies on Indigenous Peoples and communities.
Economic reconciliation is one part of addressing those lasting impacts — moving from exclusion and inequity toward greater Indigenous participation, ownership and the ability to benefit from economic activity on their own terms.
Earlier this month, Concert employees came together to deepen their understanding of this topic through a conversation with Michael McDonald, KC, Indigenous rights and business lawyer, and George Abbott, Chief Commissioner of the BC Treaty Commission.
The discussion explored what it takes to be a better partner to Indigenous communities, from building relationships grounded in trust and respect to creating more meaningful opportunities for participation and economic benefit.
Guided by our Reconciliation Action Plan, we’re focused on carrying that learning forward.
