📣 The Bank of Canada just raised its policy rate by 0.25% to 2.50%. It’s the first increase since July 2023, after seven holds in a row.
Here’s what that means for you:
🔹 Prime is now 4.70%, so variable-rate mortgages and lines of credit move with it.
🔹 The Bank said more increases may be needed, and it will decide one meeting at a time. The next announcement is December 9.
🔹 If your mortgage renews in the next 6 to 12 months, you may not need to wait. Many lenders let you secure a renewal rate as early as 6 months before your term ends. Terms and penalties vary, so check the details for your mortgage.
Good decisions come from good information. Your timeline, your income and how much certainty you want all shape which product fits, so there isn’t one right answer for everyone.
I’m not a mortgage advisor, but I work with trusted mortgage professionals here in the Fraser Valley and would be glad to connect you. They’ll walk you through your options so you can choose with confidence.
