September 2026 Greater Toronto Area (GTA) home sales dropped 9% year-over-year to 5,040 transactions, while new listings fell 14.4% to 16,500 as economic uncertainty, inflation, and borrowing costs paused buyer activity. According to the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB), the average selling price declined 5.1% to $1,006,409, and the MLS® Home Price Index benchmark fell 4.7%. Significant pent-up demand remains, but buyers await employment stability, rate clarity, and municipal election policies addressing housing affordability and Toronto’s Municipal Land Transfer Tax before re-entering the market.
