Over the past year, I’ve thought much more carefully about where my money goes, who owns the companies I support, and who ultimately benefits from the business I generate.

Canada and the United States should be close friends and trading partners, yet we do not find ourselves under these circumstances today.

The United States has continued to engage in an aggressive tariff war against Canada, placing Canadian industries, workers & communities under significant economic pressure. At the same time, we have heard repeated rhetoric about Canada becoming the “51st state,” as though our sovereignty and identity are bargaining chips, or a partisan punchline.
I still find this deeply offensive.

This is not about disliking Americans. It is about recognizing that Canadians should not continually send our money, our business & economic power out of our state while assuming our economy will remain strong & independent.

Every dollar we spend is an economic vote. When we choose a Canadian company, more of that dollar has the opportunity to remain here, supporting Canadian jobs, suppliers, tax revenue, innovation & investment. When we choose an American company over a comparable Canadian alternative, more of the value created by that purchase leaves our country.

One transaction may seem insignificant. Millions of those decisions are not. Governments can impose counter-tariffs & negotiate trade agreements, but Canadians have power through the choices we make every day: where we shop, bank, subscribe and build our businesses.

I cannot promise to buy Canadian in every circumstance. Sometimes no practical Canadian alternative exists. Yet when a strong Canadian option is available, I believe we should seriously consider it, even when it requires a little more effort or compromise.

Economic independence will not be built through slogans. It will be built through often tough decisions. That principle has now influenced one of the most important decisions I can make professionally: where I place my real estate licence and build the next chapter of my business.

For me, choosing Canadian is no longer merely a preference... right now, it is my responsibility.

This may be the weirdest post I’ll ever make. Maybe it puts me offside of the future. Maybe it makes me a bit old-fashioned. In either case, I’m okay with that.

My industry is changing. Like many of my colleagues, I use AI to help with parts of my work. Yet as it becomes increasingly possible to replace myself with a believable AI-generated avatar on camera, I’ve been thinking about where I'm drawing the line.

I think the real estate industry needs more human connection, not less. We need to find ways that we be better connected to each other, not more detached. I think diving head-first into an over-dependence on ai-driven chatbots, avatars and voice replacements are the wrong direction.

Here’s my commitment to you: I will never replace myself with an AI avatar.

If I've posted a video of me, it’ll actually be me.
I might pause to find the right words. I might stutter, ramble a little, or wish I’d said something differently. That’s what it’s like to hear from a real, live human being.

I want the person you see here to be the person who shows up at your door: the same face, the same voice, the same imperfect person who will listen carefully and tell you what I honestly think.

Over the years, people have invited me into some deeply personal moments: buying a first apartment, selling a family home filled with generations of memories, welcoming a child, navigating a divorce, or grieving someone they love.

Many moves happen because life changed in a way no one expected. I’ve sat at kitchen tables and listened to worries that had very little to do with square footage or contracts. Those conversations have taught me how much trust this work asks of people.

I’m happy to let technology help me behind the scenes. However, the connection, guidance and responsibility to show up for people have to come from me - not a bot or fake version of me.

That’s my pro-human commitment: when you hear from me, you’ll get me.

Here we are on the last night of summer ’26.

This season brought change & much of it felt like the beginning of something good.

New experiences. New connections. New possibilities. More time spent looking forward than looking back. There were moments that reminded me how quickly life can open up when you’re willing to step beyond what’s familiar and trust where it might lead.

Tonight, looking out over the lights of Langley & the mountains beyond, I feel genuinely grateful. Not because everything is settled or certain, but because life feels full of possibility.

Goodnight, summer of 2026. Thank you for the memories, the growth, and the reminder that some of life’s best chapters begin with change.
