Every year, I question whether attending Real Brokerage’s RISE conference is worth it. It’s expensive, it takes us away from our businesses and families, and there’s always something happening back home that needs our attention.

I don’t come to these conferences expecting to meet 1,000 agents or return home with some life-changing revelation.

I enjoy hearing where Real is headed, the technology they’re developing, and the tools we can use to run our businesses better. Some of the things announced this week were pretty impressive.

But one of my favourite parts of these conferences is connecting with other agents who challenge the way I think about our business. I had a few conversations this week with agents who are doing things differently, some of them better than we are. And I walked away thinking about things we could be doing differently for our clients, our team, and our business.

And having our team here makes the trip even better. We spend so much time working together, putting out fires and dealing with everyone else’s problems, that it’s nice to get away and spend time together without the usual distractions.

The older I get, the more I realize how easy it is to become comfortable doing things the way you’ve always done them, especially when they’ve worked for you.

Now the challenge is actually doing something with what we’ve learned instead of going home, getting buried in work, and forgetting half of it by next week.

And if nothing else, at least we got a few good days in Vegas with the team. 🙂💙

18,250 days on the market. That’s 50 years for those in the back. 😂

It’s been almost a week since my 50th birthday celebration, and I’m still trying to find the right words to describe what that evening meant to me.

We had friends fly in from Hawaii for literally 24 hours just to surprise me. My best friend from Dallas and his brother made the trip up. And I got to spend the evening with so many people I’ve known throughout different stages of my life.

The theme of the evening was family, and looking around that room, I couldn’t help but think about how much of my life was represented by the people standing in front of me.

Some I’ve known since I was a kid, others for 20, 30, even 40 years. They’ve seen me through different chapters of my life, the good times, the challenges, the successes, the mistakes, and everything in between.

The more I’ve reflected on that evening, the more I realize how much of who I am today has been shaped by these relationships. Over the years, there have been people who believed in me when I doubted myself, gave me advice I probably didn’t want to hear, or simply showed up when I needed them. I genuinely wouldn’t be where I am today without so many of them.

I got a little more emotional than I expected that night, and I think I understand why now. Seeing so many people who’ve been part of my life, all together in one room, meant more to me than I could properly express that evening.

These are some of my favourite photos from the celebration. So many people who have meant so much to me over the years, all together for one night.

50 years, a lot of memories, and some pretty amazing people to share them with.

Thank you for being part of my life. ❤️

My wife threw me an incredible 50th birthday party this weekend, and looking around that room made me think a lot about the life we’ve built together.

Amy and I have been together for most of our adult lives. We’ve gone through different careers, built businesses, raised 2 kids, had some great years, some really hard ones and made plenty of mistakes along the way.

When you’ve shared that much life with someone, you realize how much the person beside you becomes part of who you are and where you end up. I don’t think I fully understood that when Amy and I first got together. I definitely do now.

You can be ambitious, work your ass off and chase whatever version of success you want, but who you’re building your life with matters just as much. That person becomes part of the foundation underneath all of it.

I’m pretty damn grateful for mine.

Thanks for making 50 one I’ll always remember, Amy. ❤️

Rob Townsend and I go back quite a few years to our previous brokerage. I got to know Rob pretty well over those years and always had a lot of respect for him. He was heavily involved in his community, loved his family, genuinely cared about people, worked incredibly hard and was also a golf pro, which probably explains why I hinted more than once that I could use a new swing coach. 😂

About a year ago, Rob called me. He was making some changes professionally and asked if I would consider having him join our team. His real estate business wasn’t where he wanted it to be, but I knew work ethic wasn’t the problem.

We sat down, set some clear goals and I told him to put his head down, ignore the noise and just do the damn work. What I’ve appreciated most about Rob since then is that he’s willing to try just about anything I throw at him. Even when it’s outside his comfort zone, he gives it a shot, figures it out and keeps going.

And the results speak for themselves. In just the first 9 months of 2026, Rob closed 28 transactions representing nearly $13,000,000 in real estate sold. He still has an entire quarter left, more deals in his Q4 pipeline and business already starting to build into 2027. Anyone selling real estate in 2026 knows this hasn’t exactly been the easiest year to do it.

People see our team online, the new office, the events, the offsites and all the fun we have together. What they don’t see are the hours behind it, the prospecting, the follow-ups and the work our agents put in every day to build their businesses.

We gave Rob the tools, systems and support, but he’s the one who showed up and did the work.

Congratulations on 1 year with us, Rob. You’ve earned the success you’ve had, and I have a feeling there’s a lot more coming.

I’m 50 today. I’m not sure how that happened because I still feel 35 most days, I just need a lot more recovery time now. 🤣

When I look back at these 50 years, I feel incredibly fortunate. I’ve had a life filled with experiences I never could have imagined when I was younger. I’ve taken some pretty big swings, changed careers, started businesses and chased some ambitious ideas. Some failed, while others became more successful than I could have imagined. I wouldn’t change much of it because somehow it all led me here.

I understand something at 50 that I didn’t at 30 or even 40. The things that have mattered most have very little to do with what I’ve accomplished and everything to do with the people I’ve shared my life with. At the centre of that has always been my family. Marrying Amy was the best decision I ever made. She’s been beside me through almost every version of myself, through some of the best years and some of the hardest. Together, we raised the 2 people I’m most proud of in this world, Juliana and Ethan.

I’m much more aware now of how quickly it all goes. I’ve spent a lot of my life looking ahead and chasing the next thing, and I’m definitely not done taking big swings or making questionable decisions. I’m just getting better at appreciating what’s right in front of me.

Family has also grown beyond the people I’m related to. It’s the close friends who have been part of different chapters of my life and people I’ve met through business who became family along the way. With every decade, my circle has gotten smaller, but the relationships have gotten stronger. I care a lot less about how many people are around me and a lot more about who they are. Some have been here for decades and others arrived much later, but they’ve seen me at my best and my lowest, celebrated the good times, stood beside me through the difficult ones and kept showing up.

My team completely turned the office upside down to surprise me for my 50th, and looking around that room at all those people I’m lucky enough to have in my life felt like a pretty perfect way to start this next decade.

Here’s to the next 50. 🥂

I really thought we’d spend a couple hours at Snyder’s Farm and then head home. Somehow a couple hours turned into the entire day.

There’s so much to do there, but a few of my favourites were racing Ethan on the pedal carts like we were in Mario Kart, getting lost in the corn maze, eating way too much, and I’m pretty sure I enjoyed the haunted house more than the kids did.

A huge thank you to the entire Snyder family for inviting us and making us feel so welcome. You can tell how much heart and work goes into this place. We really appreciated being your guests for the day and had such a great time.

If you haven’t been to Snyder’s Farm, take the family. You won’t regret it!

It’s this young lady’s birthday today. She’s been by my side through pretty much everything, the good, the bad, and all the chaos in between. I’m still not sure how I got so lucky.
Happy birthday Amy. ❤️
