Who’s Walking Who?

Today’s inspection took me to Elkford, and I couldn’t believe how much snow they already have!

Didn’t want to leave my buddy Bose home all day, so he came along for the ride. After patiently waiting while I worked, he definitely deserved a walk when we got home!

Although, as you can see, I’m not sure who’s walking who!

Bose is a Golden Retriever/Border Collie cross with quite the personality. He loves carrying his leash and taking the lead!

Any other Golden Retriever owners have a character like this guy?

💧 A Small Leak Today Could Mean Thousands in Repairs Tomorrow!

When was the last time you looked underneath your kitchen or bathroom sink?

Not all plumbing leaks are obvious. Some of the most expensive water damage starts with a slow drip that goes unnoticed for months.

Here are five simple things to check:

✔️ Faucet connections: Look for moisture around the base of your faucet and where the supply lines connect.

✔️ Supply lines and shut-off valves: Run your fingers along the connections with a dry paper towel. Even a tiny leak can leave moisture behind.

✔️ Drain pipes and P-trap: Run the water, fill the sink and then drain it while checking for drips around the fittings.

✔️ Cabinet flooring: Look for swelling, bubbling, discolouration or soft spots. These can be signs of an ongoing leak.

✔️ Musty smells and sink seals: A damp or musty smell, deteriorating caulking or damaged seals could mean moisture has been hiding longer than you think.

DJ’s Home Inspection Tip:

Empty your under-sink cabinets and inspect everything thoroughly a few times a year. It takes just minutes, but catching a slow leak early could save you thousands in water damage, mould remediation and cabinet repairs.

A Thanksgiving Reminder to Be Grateful

This view from our deck is a beautiful reminder of just how much we have to be thankful for. Living in the Kimberley and East Kootenays has given us a whole new appreciation for the beauty around us and the community we’re fortunate to be part of.

This Thanksgiving, I’m especially grateful for my mother in law, who made us the perfect turkey to bring us all together around the table, for my spouse, who shares this adventure with me; and for a community that has welcomed us and made us feel at home.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, I’m also reminded how important it is to appreciate the little things, take care of what matters, and never take the comforts of home for granted.
