There's something oh so special about the last few warm days in early fall spent in Nova Scotia. You can spend all afternoon at the beach, and cozy up by the fire in the evenings when the chill sets in.
Our coastline stretches over 13,000 km - that’s more than almost ANYWHERE else in the world. There isn’t a beach in Nova Scotia that I haven’t loved.
Martinique Beach out on the Eastern Shore is the longest sandy beach in the province at 5 km of white sand, and it's still one of the best spots to stretch out and do absolutely nothing for a few hours. The water here runs cold all summer thanks to the Labrador Current, so it's more of a reading-in-the-sun beach for me. If you’re lucky, and time it just right, there is warmer water coupled with great waves for surfing in late August and well into September & October. My sisters and I grew up learning how to surf here 🌊
Not far from the city, Crystal Crescent gives you 3 separate sand beaches connected by a perfect little coastal trail, and Sambro Island Lighthouse sits just offshore as the oldest surviving lighthouse in North America.
Head up towards the Bay of Fundy and you're looking at the highest tides on the whole entire planet, which means the shoreline you photograph in the morning can look completely different just hours later.
Meanwhile the South Shore offers nothing but gorgeous coastline from St Margaret’s Bay, Hubbards, Chester, through to Rissers, Cherry Hill, Liverpool and alllllll the way down to Yarmouth - beautiful beaches, waves for surfing, and protected coves and inlets perfect for sailing adventures.
You can grow up here and still find a beach you haven't been to yet. Keeps me adventuring each year.
