I’m happy with the US Midterms and the Democrats taking control of Congress and Senate. I feel that enough Americans showed that the Billionaires and Big Tech control, and war mongering had to end. I don’t like all the Liberals agenda but there needs to be some checks and balance, with some that aren’t chicken or bought by foreign governments.

I’m also happy with the Alberta Referendum results, shows only a small amount of Albertans were convinced by an even smaller percentage of idiots that leaving Canada was a good idea. The other questions asked I actually agree with the results as well, there does need to be more immigration controls and there should be a better balance of powers, better working relations between the Federal and Provincial Govts.

So now I feel I don’t need to boycott the US or Alberta, they will probably get more travel, and more purchase’s from them. I’m glad bc I’m missing going to Las Vegas.

I seen a funny meme the other day, said something like the reason getting out hunting is so good is you never hear a guy say “well those trees were sure as****es to talk too”!

I am out hunting, so nice, I’m a bit cold and tired but just can’t beat this. Now while I agree with the comment above, I find myself calling other things names, like the ducks and geese, other birds giving me away while stalking, I call them worse than as****es in the moment. Other times it might be the rough terrain breaking your vehicles or getting lost in the night. No matter what, still so nice to get out.

Today came across 1 buck, 4 does, a coyote and a beaver. I want to get a moose or elk, if get nothing, just means more hunting to come!

Happy Thanksgiving, hope everyone has some good eating and good health.

This fox is actually a Mom (I thought was a male before but think it’s a female), I watch her take food back too her pups. She’s getting very comfortable, comes right up on the deck, can be hateful to the dogs, tease them and leave her scent all over. There’s a few of them come around but she’s the most comfortable.

This little Buck deer came through the yard, Chico and I just watched him and then when we went for walk I found him down in the coulee.

Update and learnings

Kathy, Alex and I did the Run for the Cure, was a great run, was good to see some of the SIGA crew out

Finally met my fitness goals from a few years ago, (run valley in under 8mins, a spartan race, and final one was the 5km run in 30mins), it took longer than wanted but got them

Now I have to find new ones for 60 (just living to 60 be something to celebrate tho)

I feel healthier and stronger now than for many years

6.5 years or so since retired, 4 years since shutdown and sold my business, still don’t miss work one bit, miss some of my old friends tho

7 or more years since drank excessively (hardly had more than a few in all those years, I don’t remember last time even had 1, didn’t quit but just don’t miss it)

4.5 years since sick in hospital, still worry everyday my nose start bleeding again

3.5 years since hip replacement surgery, life’s so much better without that constant pain

Learnings

Things are hard to do at first then get easy, then after awhile those easy things become hard again (like a baby learning to walk& run, then as age gets hard again, or simple things like tie shoes)

Realize what was right one time isn’t always right, I had to relearn to run since hip surgery different than I remember, never had to focus to run

As I get older blaming age just leads to accepting decline in abilities, have to keep pushing

The world moves faster than ever with or without me involved, so might as well just relax, learn to navigate it and enjoy the ride as much as possible

I always thought Billy Joel and Niel Diamond were rotten poser singers, now I really like that song Sweet Caroline, maybe they have one or 2 decent songs

Giving and helping people when able is a good feeling whether it’s money, food, advice

Everyone has feelings, even those we think don’t care

Now I know what long in the teeth means, dentist says gums recede, wtf

Talking about teeth last night I realize I need to try keep them as long as I can, no gumming around

I’m old enough to get senior discounts at some places, refuse to so far, denialism

Share the love, just a little bit

Five years ago I wrote about this, it only got worse since and it will continue to get worse. There’s no easy solution to offer and my opinion is much the same as 5 years ago. I feel it’s much more than just a gov’t issue; it’s also an individual rights issue, a societal issue and family issues.

Govt needs to deal better with drug abuse, mental health problems, and deal with housing availability, control immigration. Each person homeless has to make the effort to want to get out of that cycle, quit drugs, look for work. Society has to accept that help is not just defined by handing out food and clothes, it’s also having the understanding and compassion to accept not everyone is a perfect model like they expect. Family have to want to help their family struggling starting the immediate members and go out from there, as much as can be done before risking safety, homelessness and health/sanity personally.

The world is changing faster than ever, it’s reported daily now how AI threatens humanity. One thing I’d say is the homeless and those been poor will survive the best, they learnt to survive in the worst conditions thrown at them. Right now they still need help to get a decent quality of life, maybe someday one of them be helping one of us. How many of us think we are secure going into old age, have lots of money for old age home? Markets go up and down so fast nothing for sure.

Reflection on last year
- My Baby Sister got married, enjoyed some other celebrations, graduation and birthdays
- lost some family & friends, and our Cat Johnny - makes me realize my age (riding motorbike, fast cars, craziness and Sturgis on this week makes me think of them)
- The weather this year was a long cold winter, more snow and rain later, short summer with some good hot days so far (leaves are just turning yellow this last few weeks, 1 month later than last few years)
- I found the insects were way worse so far, more ticks, mosquitoes, horse flies
- I’m still fighting age as much as I can - last year I set my goals to do some physical feats - I got the hill done, and a Spartan race (military style course, Kathy helped me with techniques, made it so much easier and did much better than I thought I would)
- Now I just have to get to be able to jog 5k in 30mins again (wanted to do last summer but my kids reminded me it’s not getting easier as I get older so can still do it even not by date I set)
- After doing the Spartan I’m now changing my goal to just stay at a sustainable level of fitness, able to do those challenges at anytime as long as I can
- I’m still learning - reading, listening more and physically I realized since I had hip surgery I’m running wrong and it causes continuous injuries
- Like my Dad use to say “you start to learn after you thought you knew everything”
- We had a birthday down at the lake with Aunty Iris and Sundance again, we are lucky to share the day and have big family gatherings
- I got some nice Hats from my Mom, I don’t like the peaky blinder style, I like the military/rebel styles more
- I made a friend, and a deal with a fox and family, I feed them once in a while and they keep mice away
- Hunting season is coming, it will be good to get out and enjoy nature again, I seen so many elk, moose, deer and this year

We scared out our little friend today on our run up the hill, he comes right to the house sometimes. Haven’t seen the bear this year yet, but lots of ticks, deer, fox and coyotes as usual.

Hello Facebook world, a memory to compare next year. Today started out with about 6 inches of snow, cold, windy, but ended with the Sun shining & melting the snow fast. Trump claiming victory and a deal made with Iran, the markets went back up to point where made up pretty much all that lost in last month. I decided not to go to Regina today for a court date; too much going on and getting reno’s in the house too. I got kicked out while the guys working in house, it’s the strangest feeling to have nowhere to go, so eat in the truck (a&w and kfc lunch and supper) and watch people. The snow clearing kept me busy for most of the day but still get bored waiting when done. So now catchup a bit what’s going on in this world!

For the memory bank - my Mom found this today while going through old pictures. This was the opening day of Painted Hand Casino, 1996, I was 26 and at the time, Assistant General Manager and thought I hit the Jackpot with the job. So many of the team we opened the Casino with have passed on now, very good friends I owe so much too. Theres still many out there from the casino and SIGA I consider life long friends. So many long days, so much work, so many crazy times too. I thank my days with PHC and SIGA, was very lucky.
