How do we build it better?

From water and streets to policy, standards and approvals, the way we plan and deliver infrastructure has a big impact on how quickly and affordably our communities can grow.

Join us for a conversation on what Edmonton and Calgary are doing differently, what’s working and where there may be opportunities to simplify the way we build.

The conversation will be moderated by Mike Kohl of Brookfield Residential, joined by Amie Blanchette of BILD Calgary, Kathy Oberg of CIMA+ | B&A, Craig Bonneville of EPCOR, and Russell Dauk of Rohit Group of Companies

Alessandra Bruni-Smith’s path into the development industry started with an unexpected opportunity and grew into a nearly 15-year career.

“Our industry succeeds when everybody works together and is collaborative. And part of doing that is bringing up-and-comers into the industry and giving them the same experience that I once had.”

Since then, Alessandra has built a career spanning land development, builder relations, marketing and communications, while founding ChalkMark Residential and continuing to give back through industry and community leadership.

From mentoring the next generation to creating opportunities for members to learn, connect and better understand the full development process, collaboration has stayed at the centre of Alessandra’s career.

A lot of Edmonton history is hiding behind that iconic pink insulation. 💗🏭

We visited Owens Corning Canada to learn more about their Edmonton manufacturing plant, which has been operating since 1959 and today employs more than 140 people.

The team produces insulation, roofing and door products, with the Edmonton plant known for its quality across North America. About 40% of production serves Western Canada, while 60% is exported to the U.S.

We also got a closer look at how their pink insulation is made using recycled glass and sustainable binders, and heard about the plant’s recent recognition as one of just 10 manufacturing plants in North America to meet a gold standard of manufacturing.

Thanks to Andrew, Skylar, Ryley and Hiren for having us out and showing us around!

Help shape the work behind the industry.

BILD Edmonton Metro’s Committees, Working Groups and Forums are where members bring their expertise forward, connect with industry peers and help shape the conversations affecting how our region plans, builds, renovates and grows.

In 2026, 458 volunteers from 136 member companies got involved. Now we’re looking for even more voices around the table.

Whether you’ve been involved for years or this would be your first time, we’d love to hear from you.

Expressions of Interest are due December 1, 2026.

We spent the weekend at the Edmonton Fall Home Show talking all things renovation. 🛠️🏠

As part of Renovation Month, members of our Renovation Committee were there sharing more about RenoMark and what homeowners and renovators should know about the program.

A few things we talked about:

• Homeowners should look for renovators who use written contracts, warranties and insurance.

• RenoMark members follow a Code of Conduct and are verified through the Canadian Home Builders' Association National.

• RenoMark is a way to build credibility, stand out in the market and show a commitment to professionalism and industry standards.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to chat with us over the weekend!

Let’s talk numbers! 📊

The next BILD Toolbox Series is getting into the financial side of building and development, from putting together a competitive pro forma to understanding what actually makes a project feasible and profitable.

Led by Patrick Shaver, President of Avillia Developments, and Steven Ewaskiw, Executive Vice President of Finance at Cantiro, this technical workshop will break down the math behind community development and give you practical tools you can take back to your next project.

And because spreadsheets are better with snacks, we’ll wrap things up with w**e, cheese and networking! 🍷🧀

A big thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, ; Event Sponsor, ; and Instructor Sponsors, and for supporting the BILD Toolbox Series.

Renos really add up! 🛠️

Renovators do a lot more than deliver a good before and after. They help existing homes keep working for the people who live in them, whether that means creating more space, improving accessibility, updating older homes or helping people stay in the communities they already know and love.

In 2025, renovation activity across the Edmonton Metro Region represented $2.1 billion in investment, 15,700 regional renovator jobs and $1.2 billion in wages.

It’s another reminder of the important role renovation plays in our housing system, our communities and the regional economy.
