Cindy was the first person she texted.

After living on the streets, Ashley got out of jail in July, found out about Hope Mission, and was housed by September. She was still in active addiction when Cindy, her Hope Mission follow-up support worker, began visiting.

Then Ashley found out she was pregnant with Aiden and texted Cindy first. Cindy went to every appointment and ultrasound and was in the delivery room when he was born.

Thanksgiving dinners fed our hungry and vulnerable neighbours at three more Hope Mission locations: Vancouver (our first-ever there), Tegler Youth Centre, and Karis Centre.

Volunteers and staff cooked, plated, and served hot holiday dinners, and in Vancouver a new table was set for community members to sit down together.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Next Step Thrift grand opening on Saturday.

There was live music, door prizes, and free food and drinks, and many of you took time out of your Saturday to be part of it. We are grateful you came.

If you could not make it, the store is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm at 4210 99 Street NW in Edmonton. Come see the new space.

Every purchase at Next Step Thrift helps support children, youth, and families through Hope Mission's prevention programs.

Next Step Thrift is celebrating its grand opening Saturday, October 17, and you are invited.

Doors open at 9am at 4210-99 Street NW in Edmonton. Here is what is happening:

Live music
Free food and drinks
25% off for the first 25 customers
Door prize raffle

Our thrift store, formerly Second Chance Thrift Shop, has a new name and a new home. Every purchase helps support Hope Mission's Prevention programs. Since September 1, the store has also been home to an employment program for youth and caregivers we serve at the Tegler Youth Centre.

“Our family is really grateful for this job.”

After her husband’s health kept him from returning to work, Cheryl found a job at Next Step Thrift Store. It provides the income her family needs—and a chance to do work she knows and enjoys.

Next Step also employs three high school students, with training and mentorship to help them prepare for future opportunities. Store proceeds support Hope Mission’s programs for youth and families.

From Edmonton to Victoria, Thanksgiving dinners were served at our locations this past weekend.

Volunteers and staff showed up to cook, plate, and serve hot holiday meals to hundreds of community members.
