Canadian home sales are taking a different turn than many expected, here’s why that matters for buyers and sellers. 🏡
This year, CREA revised its home-sales forecast downward for the third time, now projecting sales in 2026 to be 5.2% lower than last year. September’s numbers showed a 2.3% drop from August and a 7.7% dip compared to the same month a year ago. 📉
Higher oil prices, increased bond yields, and rising fixed mortgage rates have cooled market activity. With ongoing concern about possible rate hikes from the Bank of Canada, many potential buyers are watching closely and waiting for signs of stability. This means sellers may need to adapt their expectations, while buyers who are well-prepared could find new opportunities. 👍
Looking ahead, CREA anticipates a rebound with home sales set to rise 4.4% in 2027, assuming the lending environment remains more predictable. Uncertainty today could turn into advantage for those ready to act when confidence returns.
