This means that it is based on the needs, ambitions, wishes and experiences of the inhabitants and direct users pf the neighborhood. “This is what humanizes our project and makes us face it from another point of view. We were looking for a proposal that could satisfy the needs of the elderly but also the kids’ and teenagers’ ones through a cultural and educational proposal that doesn’t exist now. We then empty the central space of the building blocks to give it to the public space.” BY AND

R50 COHOUSING Berlin. Underneath there is a doubleheight, flexible community space which connects the building’s main access with the public street space. It is made available for neighborhood groups and other public uses. The modular timber façade with fixed and flexible, outward opening glazed door elements was specifically developed for this building. This combined with the all-around balconies on each level allows a direct dialogue between the building’s architecture and its use.
