Period originals, blended styles and contemporary interpretations each bring something different to the street. This is a guide to recognising the details they share.

Melbourne has been named the world’s friendliest city for 2026 in the annual Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Awards. But its charm has been generations in the making…

So let’s rewind 60 years to 1966. 🎞️

Looking back, you can catch glimpses of the charm that still draws people here today. Lively streets, popular meeting places and the everyday connections that make a city feel welcoming.

Long before this year’s recognition, these were places where people met, formed friendships and made themselves at home. This vintage footage brings a little of that warmth and history back to life.

Swipe through and see which places you recognise. Spotted somewhere familiar? Tell us below. Even better, share a memory from there! 👇

Another five-star experience with Shape! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"We had a wonderful experience working with Cindy from Shape Real Estate. Her personal service was exceptional, and she has a fantastic eye for detail. She made the whole process feel easy and kept us well informed with excellent communication throughout.

Cindy sold our house quickly and achieved a great price, and we couldn’t have been happier with the result. We would highly recommend Cindy and Shape Real Estate to anyone looking for a professional, knowledgeable and genuinely caring real estate agent.

Thank you so much, Cindy, for all your hard work, support and dedication!"

Another five-star experience with Shape! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"I have been extremely happy with dealing with Cindy Tamber. She went over and above on working selling my apartment.
Cindy kept me so well informed after every open. I am grateful that we did so well in today's current market. The property was sold in record time. I would highly recommend Cindy to sell any property in any price bracket, in and around the Stonnington area."
