🐟 Trust, Tuna and Transparency
I caught up with my mate Bernard recently for one of our regular coffees.
He’s known me for about 45 years, and after telling me he’d been enjoying my newsletters, he asked a simple question:
“What does Only Clean Business actually mean?”
Fair question.
I’ve used the expression for over 20 years.
Years ago, John West used the line:
“The fish that John West rejects that make John West the best.”
You don’t have to like tuna for the idea to make sense.
Sometimes what defines you is not just what you’re prepared to do.
It’s what you’re prepared to reject.
That’s a big part of what Only Clean Business means to me.
There are listings, sales and commissions I would rather walk away from than get involved in if the only way to make the deal happen is to compromise something that matters.
Because results matter.
But how you get the result matters too.
For me, trust comes first.
The fee matters.
Track record matters.
Strategy matters.
But if trust isn’t number one, you can end up second-guessing every piece of advice, every negotiation and ultimately the result itself.
And for a seller, trust also means knowing your agent is doing everything reasonably possible to discover the highest price the buyer is genuinely prepared to pay, not simply the lowest price the seller will accept.
That distinction matters.
Only Clean Business isn’t soft business.
It’s about trust, transparency and being prepared to walk away from a deal rather than compromise the things that matter.
❤️ That’s where I come in.
