Did you know Vienna has its own vineyards – right inside the city?
Autumn is the perfect time to enjoy them. The grapes are being harvested, the Sturm is flowing (sweet, cloudy, and stronger than it tastes – you've been warned), and most Heurigen are open every day.
Not sure where to go? Grinzing is the classic, Nussdorf is lovely and scenic, Neustift am Walde is where the locals head, and Stammersdorf is the most rustic of all. Little tip: you usually order at the buffet. Just watch the regulars for a moment and you'll get the hang of it.
