A name can carry a history far beyond the classroom.

This week, we welcomed Elliot Ndabankulu Makaula Full Service School to Y-Stay. The school carries the name of Chief Elliot Ndabankulu Makaula, a Bhaca chief whose name remains part of the community’s educational landscape today.

From Mvuzi in the Eastern Cape to Nelson Mandela Bay, it was special to welcome a school carrying that legacy into our space.

Thank you for choosing Y-Stay.

"Our experience at YMCA Port Elizabeth was absolutely amazing! 😊 The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The accommodation was neat and tidy, the grounds were well maintained, and the entire team was friendly, welcoming, and always willing to assist... And as for the food... one of our junior athletes said it best: 'The food was beautiful!' 😋 We have never received packed lunches that were so tasty! A huge thank you to the entire YMCA team. You guys truly ROCK!😊🙏🏽 We will definitely be back! 👊🏽"

Thank you for the love, Candice! We can’t wait to host your team again in Gqeberha.

As we continue to honour the spirit of Nelson Mandela this July, we take time to reflect on what it truly means to make a difference.

At Y-Stay, every booking is an investment in the work of YMCA Nelson Mandela Bay and the communities we serve. As the social enterprise of the YMCA, every guest helps us continue creating opportunities for young people, supporting community programmes and extending our impact far beyond 67 minutes.

In the spirit of service and shared responsibility, we invite individuals, families, schools, sports teams, churches and organisations to get involved in whatever way they can. Whether you choose to stay with us, recommend us to others or simply share our story, you become part of something bigger.

We can keep Madiba's legacy alive by giving, serving and creating lasting change every day of the year.
