I give all the glory to God for making my business what it is today so I want to share a little bit about how becoming an artist, when that was never my plan, all started.
I was sitting in church one day, having gone alone this time, and decided to fill out one of those prayer request cards tucked in the seat pocket in front of you.
Typically, I’ll write a prayer on these for someone else and take it home with me and set it on my dresser so that I can pray for that person every time I see it.
But this time was different. I wrote on that prayer card praying for myself and my business, asking that clients would come my way. Little did I know that it would be a completely different clientele than I was initially thinking.
A little over a year ago, I stepped away from my full time job to focus on completely refurbishing furniture head to toe. While I absolutely love this line of work, taking on client commission sets requires an immense amount of time. Transforming a full bedroom set meant investing a month + into just one project and really the time investment just didn't make sense. So looking back now, praying for more furniture clients wouldn’t have solved my real problem.
But in slipped that prayer request anyway right where it belongs so the church team could pray over it. It wasn’t but two weeks later that somebody reached out to me, right after I posted about some art pieces I made being on an HGTV show, asking if I could make him some art. I thought, Why not? I enjoy textured art, so why pass this up?
I did two 48 x 60 pieces for him. Once they were done, I put them up on Marketplace and wrote in the description that they were sold, but that I could paint something similar. Every time someone orders, I repeat that same process. Today, I have a 2+ month waitlist with orders coming in from across the US, never once having to go through the trial and error of painting something only to HOPE it sells.
I know it’s because I prayed for this, and I feel blessed beyond belief.
It makes the idea I shared yesterday, about writing a prayer and a verse on the back of each piece, feel so much more meaningful. Looking back at where it all started with one prayer request card, I’m just so grateful to see how God has brought everything full circle.
