Another closing, but this one feels like a good reminder of something I think gets lost in all the conversations about interest rates, inventory and “the market.”

People don’t only move when the market is perfect.

They move because life happens.

The home I’m closing on this week was part of an estate sale, and its new owners were looking for a quieter life outside the hustle and bustle of the city. One chapter ending and another beginning—all under the same roof.

I hear versions of this story all the time. “We want to be closer to the grandkids.” “We’re ready to downsize.” “We want a little land.” “We need more room.” “We’re just ready for something different.”

There will always be reasons people need to buy and sell homes.

So maybe the better question isn’t, “What are the headlines saying?”

Maybe it’s, “What does life look like for us right now?”
