One of Sonoma's favorite holiday traditions is returning to the Plaza! 🎄✨

On Saturday, November 21, the community will gather for the Lighting of the Sonoma Plaza 2026.

From 5–8 PM, the evening will feature live music, local performers, food vendors, c***r, cookies, and the lighting of the holiday tree.

It's a lovely opportunity to spend an evening in downtown Sonoma—enjoy the festivities, catch up with friends, and perhaps stay for dinner at one of the restaurants around the Plaza.

Whether you're a Sonoma County local or visiting W**e Country for the weekend, this is one of those community celebrations that makes the season feel special.

📍 Sonoma Plaza, 1 The Plaza, Sonoma, CA

There's something about the landscape along St. Helena Road that makes the drive feel like part of the getaway.

The winding roads, the trees, the changing colors of the season. Even the light seems to move a little differently out here.

At W**e Country Retreat, that sense of place follows you home.

Spend the afternoon discovering Sonoma County, linger over a good meal, or simply enjoy being somewhere that invites you to slow down.

And when you return, there's no need to rush into the next thing.

For couples looking for a few quiet days together, sometimes that's the most memorable part of w**e country 🍂

The things guests remember aren't always on the amenities list.

Our recent Cozy Sea View Cabin guests wrote about ocean views, quiet surroundings, unwinding in the hot tub after a day out, the nearby beach, and the little welcome touches waiting when they arrived.

One guest even looked up on a clear night and saw the Milky Way.

Different trips. Different memories.
But we kept seeing the same feeling in their words:
Relaxing. Peaceful. Welcoming.

That's exactly what we hope stays with you after a few days on the Mendocino Coast.

Stayed with us before? What's one moment you still remember?

A tiny Point Arena bakery worth pulling over for 🥐

There's something especially good about discovering a tiny bakery while driving Highway 1.

At Franny's Cup & Saucer in Point Arena, sweet and savory pastries are baked onsite each morning, the selection changes with the seasons, and the coffee comes from Little Green Bean, roasted right next door.

You'll also find an eclectic little collection of gifts tucked inside.

📍 213 Main Street, Point Arena
Wednesday–Saturday · 8 AM–2 PM
Sunday · 8 AM–noon

One of those Mendocino County stops that makes the drive part of the trip.

Here, the ocean has a way of becoming part of the day without asking for your attention.

Morning begins with coffee and a view toward the water.

Maybe the sky is clear. Maybe Dillon Beach has disappeared beneath a soft layer of coastal gray.

Either way, there's no particular reason to hurry.

Eventually, shoes come on and the house gets quieter as everyone wanders toward the beach.

A few hours later, you return carrying traces of the day with you: sand on your feet, salt in the air, a tired dog, maybe a child ready for something warm to eat.

The afternoon stretches out on the deck.
Dinner can wait.
And as daylight begins to soften over the Marin coast, everyone slowly finds their way back inside.
Fireplace on. Something playing on the television. Nowhere else you're expected to be.

At Compass Rose, the ocean isn't simply something you visit.

It's the backdrop to the whole stay.

Compass Rose gives families and friends something increasingly rare: enough space to be together, enough room to spread out, and Dillon Beach just beyond the front door.

When a few days by the Marin coast sound right, booking directly with Sonoma Vacation Home Solutions keeps everything personal and uncomplicated from the beginning.

What part of a beach day do you love most...the first walk toward the water, the hours spent outside, or coming home afterward?

What if your next walk through Point Reyes was less about how far you went—and more about what you noticed? 🐾

This Sunday, the Marin Tracking Club offers a different way to experience the wild side of West Marin.

Instead of simply walking through the landscape, you'll slow down and start looking for the stories animals leave behind.

Tracks. Signs. Subtle changes in the ground. Clues to how wildlife moves and behaves.

The gathering is led by experienced tracker Richard Vacha and welcomes experienced trackers, newcomers, children and nature lovers. The club has been exploring different West Marin locations since 2006, with an emphasis on learning together rather than simply covering miles.

Save the details:
📅 Sunday, September 27
⏰ 8:30 AM–12:00 PM
📍 Meeting location announced shortly before the gathering
🌿 No advance registration required
🎟 Free

Point Reyes Nature notes that the club typically meets on the last Sunday of each month, with locations announced a few days beforehand.

You may leave looking at an ordinary trail very differently than when you arrived.

Experiences like this are one of our favorite things about exploring the Northern California coast.

Sometimes getting to know a place isn't about seeing more of it. It's about learning to notice more while you're there.

And when you're planning a few days along the coast, booking directly with Sonoma Vacation Home Solutions keeps your home base simple and personal from the start.

Save this for Sunday...or tell us: what wildlife would you be most excited to find signs of around Point Reyes?

Some meals are worth taking the long way around the bay for

If your coastal drive takes you through Marshall, save a little time for Tony’s Seafood Restaurant.

It's the kind of place that feels inseparable from Tomales Bay...seafood on the table, water just beyond it, and a history in this small waterfront community that stretches back to 1948.

Come for oysters and local seafood, but don't rush the setting.

A table on the bayside patio turns lunch into one of those wonderfully simple West Marin afternoons: something good to eat, something cold to drink, and Tomales Bay stretching out beside you. The restaurant also has indoor dining with sweeping bay views.

Save for a West Marin day:
📍 18863 Shoreline Highway, Marshall
🦪 Seafood + oysters
🌊 Bayside dining on Tomales Bay
🎶 Live music Sundays, 5–7 PM
🍽 Reservations and walk-ins welcome

And if your trip falls on a Friday, Tony's hosts its weekly Neighborhood Night from 4–7:30 PM, with oysters, small bites, drinks and a rotating three-course menu.

Places like Tony's are part of what makes exploring this stretch of Northern California coast so rewarding, the destination isn't only what you see along the drive, but where you stop along the way.

When you're planning a coastal stay with Sonoma Vacation Home Solutions, booking directly keeps the home-base side of the trip simple and personal from the start.

Save this for your next West Marin drive, or tell us your favorite stop around Tomales Bay.

Sometimes a view doesn't need to fill the whole window to change the way a morning feels.

At Peek a Bay View Cottage, Bodega Bay has a way of quietly finding its way into the day.
A glimpse of blue while you're having your first coffee.
Cool coastal air when you step outside.
Clouds moving across the bay while you sink into the warmth of the hot tub.
Later, maybe you wander down toward the water and let the weather decide how long you stay.

That's part of being in Bodega Bay.
The view changes. The light shifts. Fog comes and goes.
And instead of feeling separate from all of it, your stay begins to move at the same pace.
By evening, you may realize you spent more time looking outside than checking the time.

Peek a Bay View Cottage isn't about separating you from Bodega Bay.
It's about giving you a comfortable place to settle into it.

When you're ready for your own few days by the coast, booking directly with Sonoma Vacation Home Solutions keeps the experience personal and simple from the start.

For those who love Bodega Bay: which version stays with you most...the quiet mornings, changing weather, or evenings by the water?

There’s pumpkin picking… and then there’s taking a train through the redwoods to get there 🎃🌲

This is one Mendocino County fall tradition worth knowing about.

The Skunk Train Pumpkin Express departs from Willits for a two-hour round trip through the redwoods...with a pumpkin patch waiting along the way.

Once the train reaches Crowley, you can step outside, wander through the pumpkin patch, explore the nearby redwoods, take a few fall photos and choose a pumpkin to bring back with you on the train. Seasonal treats are part of the ride, too.

It’s an especially lovely option for families because the experience isn't simply going somewhere to pick a pumpkin. The train ride becomes part of the memory.

Worth saving for your fall plans:
📍 Departs from Willits, Mendocino County
🚂 16-mile round trip
⏱ About 2 hours
🎃 Pumpkin-patch stop + pumpkin to bring home
🌲 Redwood scenery along the way

If an autumn trip to Mendocino County is on your mind, this is the kind of local experience that can give the whole day a story.

And when you're planning the rest of your time here, booking directly with us keeps your stay personal and uncomplicated from the beginning.

Save this one for fall, or tell us: who would you bring along for a train ride to the pumpkin patch?

Maybe the best Sonoma weekends are the ones with just enough planned.

Friday starts simply.
Bags down. Shoes off. That first realization that, for the next couple of days, there's nowhere you need to rush.

Saturday can belong to Sonoma County.
A long breakfast. A drive through w**e country. A tasting that turns into an afternoon. Dinner somewhere you've been meaning to try.

Then back to MidCentury Modern W**e Country, where coming home is part of the getaway rather than the end of it.
The evening gets quieter.
Conversation lasts longer.

And Sunday morning arrives without much of an agenda.
Coffee. A slow breakfast. Maybe one last wander before it's time to leave.
Nothing extraordinary had to happen.
You simply had enough time to enjoy where you were.

That's the kind of weekend MidCentury Modern W**e Country makes room for: Sonoma outside your door, and somewhere comfortable to return to between it all.

When you're ready to plan your own, booking directly with Sonoma Vacation Home Solutions keeps the stay personal and straightforward from the beginning.

If you had one unhurried weekend in Sonoma County, what would you leave completely unplanned?
