Wow-- we hope that everyone involved walked away safe from this insanity. Today, Silver Diner in Tysons was rammed 3 times by a Hummer and burst into flames. At one point, a patron was pinned by the truck. Officials believe this was deliberate and caused by the cook (driver) who had taken bereavement leave since 4/5. http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/SUV-Crashes-Into-Va-Silver-Diner-Burst-Into-Flames-378134601.html

"Why do I need to buy title insurance when I have homeowner's insurance?" We are asked this very frequently. The short answer (other than the fact that lenders require it) is this: "the primary purpose of title insurance is to eliminate risks and prevent losses caused by defects in title arising out of events that have happened in the past." Example: a previous owner's interest in the property was affected by a judgment lien. http://www.oldrepublictitle.com/newnational/resources/primer/whatistitle.asp

As of October 2015, the HUD-1 and GFE were no longer part of the closing process. The goal: make the closing process as easy to understand as possible. Here's a quick summary of what you should expect: http://www.realtor.org/videos/hud-1-going-away-understand-new-closing-forms-procedures
The HUD-1 settlement statement and Good Faith Estimate forms are going away on October 3. The Truth in Lending Act disclosure is going away as well.
