Tips for Getting off the Mortgage Treadmill

Most people willingly jump on the mortgage treadmill, but most people can’t wait to get off it. However, paying your own mortgage down is better than paying someone else’s. That’s what you’d be doing if you continued renting. If you’re already on the mortgage treadmill and want some advice on how you can get off of it sooner, I’ve got some great advice for you today.

The Top 5 Mistakes Sellers Make

Selling a home isn’t as simple as throwing a “For Sale” sign in your yard. In fact, there are many mistakes home sellers make that put off potential buyers. Today we’ll be going over five of the biggest pitfalls you should avoid when selling your home. For example, overpricing your home is a great way to worry potential buyers. Even after you lower its price, everyone will be wondering why it’s been sitting on the market for so long.

Buy the Right Home at the Right Price By Following the 5 P’s

Today I’ll share the five P’s you need to know in order to buy the right home at the right price in our market. The first P stands for “professional.” By this I mean it’s important that you hire a real estate professional to represent you. We’re in a low-inventory market here in the DC area, so if you don’t have an expert by your side, you won’t get the property you want.

Should You Build a New Home or Renovate Your Current One?

A few of my clients recently contacted me to tell me they had run out of space and needed a larger house. They wanted to know if they should renovate, expand, or buy another property. Today I’ll discuss the merits of these options. If you like the neighborhood you’re in, then expansion is the path you’ll want to pursue. Make sure that when expanding the existing footprint of your home, it’s still within county allowances, that it meets setback requirements, that your property can carry the additional weight added to your home, and that you’re not spending too much money on the expansion.

The National Market Is Shifting, but Are We Shifting Along With It?

In many areas around the country, the market is shifting from a seller’s market to a buyer’s market. Our marketplace, though, is still favoring sellers, and I have some of the latest year-over-year statistics from last September to share with you in today’s market update. According to the numbers, there are fewer and fewer buyers out there, which means inventory will likely start climbing in the next several months.

Buyers’ Standards Are High—Does Your Home Stack Up?

Even when the market was busier earlier this year, homes that weren’t in good condition weren’t selling quickly, if at all. That hasn’t changed today; although we’re in a strong seller’s market, you still need to be able to anticipate and meet buyers’ standards if you want a good chance at selling your home for top dollar.

What the Upcoming Recession Means for Real Estate

Most experts agree that an economic recession is coming in the next few years. Most point to 2020 as the time when it will happen, but there are a few more things you need to know. For example, the next recession won’t necessarily affect the real estate market. The 2009 recession was an anomaly, but not a lot of the investors I work with are aware of this.

What You Need to Disclose in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C.

Do you know what to disclose when you sell your home? This actually depends on the state you’re selling in. Today I will be looking at the differences in disclosure requirements between Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. While these states all have different laws about disclosing issues, federal law still has its own requirements.

5 Lessons Learned From the Housing Crisis of 2007

Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. That maxim aligns perfectly with my topic today—what we learned from the 2007 financial crisis. A combination of factors, like shoddy loans and poor purchasing choices, contributed to that devastating crash. By taking the lessons we learned from that period, we can avoid future disaster, so today I want to highlight five takeaways from the 2007 crash.

Today I want to go over the 10 most expensive mistakes you may be making on your home. These mistakes end up being expensive because they collectively waste a lot of energy and resources. The first is using traditional light bulbs. If you change from traditional light bulbs to LED light bulbs, you can save as much as $150 per the life of each light bulb. To learn all 10 mistakes you are potentially making on your home, watch my latest video.

2018 vs. 2017: A Q1 Market Comparison

Today I want to talk about the individual markets of Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland, and look at how the first quarter in each market compares to the same period last year. Virginia and Maryland both saw an increase in average sold price, whereas D.C. actually went down. All three markets decreased from last year in terms of the number of units sold; inventory has shrunk over time, but demand has not. To hear more about the market trends individually, as well as a general overview, watch my latest video.
