Investing By Design is a San Diego business.

This is our home. It’s the home of our employees, our partners, our clients, our neighbors, – and one of the largest military communities in this country.

In just a few days, the USS Abraham Lincoln will return to San Diego after more than 300 days overseas.

Thousands of sailors and Marines have been serving aboard her. Their families have been waiting for them. They aren’t even home yet.

And the President of the United States said:

“Let ‘em take out San Diego.“

No.

This isn’t about a political party. It isn’t about whether you voted for him or didn’t.

There are things that should transcend politics.

You do not offer up an American city as an acceptable target.

You do not say that about a community our service members are coming home too.

And you certainly don’t say it while the men and women who served under your command are still at sea.

We love San Diego. We support our military and the families who sacrifice alongside of them.

This is our home. This is unacceptable.

I love demo day.
There is something incredibly satisfying about finally tearing into the thing you’ve been trying to work around.
Demo can look destructive.
But sometimes you have to open the wall before you can see what you’re actually dealing with.
And sometimes the thing you’re afraid to tear apart is exactly what standing between you and what you’re trying to build.
The second demo starts, the rebuild has already begun.

Maybe it’s 9/25. Maybe it’s the energy today, this moon is coming in, and the winds of change I swear I can feel it in my body.
Maybe Dolly is up there blessing us all us ladies finding our voices.

I spent a long time believing good work would speak for itself.

Boy was I f*cking wrong.

Do good work. Absolutely. All the time.

But talk about it too.

Share what you know.
Ask the hard questions.
Challenge the status quo.
Say what you want.
Tell your own story.

Finding your voice isn’t about getting louder.

Sometimes it’s just deciding you’re done making yourself quieter.

Last year, I spent months refusing to buy myself a $16 kettle.

Money felt uncertain, and somehow I decided making my morning a little bit better was irresponsible.

Eventually, I bought the f*cking kettle.

It didn’t change my life.

It just made my morning better.

Turns out, not every investment needs to be big.

Sometimes you just need to make Tuesday 5% better.

Not everything needs to be torn down.

This house had good bones, it just needed us to see them differently.

We kept the fireplace, reimagined the space around it, and let something that was already there become the anchor of the new design.

I’ve always believed the best transformations start by figuring out what’s worth keeping.

Turns out, that applies to more than houses.

On November 2, 2023, Rise Up Residential had the incredible opportunity to partner with other local non-profits for the common goal of supporting each other and aligning towards a common goal in San Diego to raise money to help make a difference in our local communities'.

It was also the event where we got to announce our current grant award of $968,000 from The Regional Task Force on Homelessness for the acquisition of our newest affordable housing project in San Diego County.

HUGE shout out and thank you to everyone that made this incredible evening possible. And another HUGE shout out to all of the sponsors for the gifts and donations for the silent auction and giving tree, and another big thank you to those of you that showed up and supported and donated and made this evening such a success.

Cheers to my amazing co-founder and business partner Amanda Chambers Noeldechen for riding this crazy roller coaster with me. And to the staff at Rise Up Residential and all our amazing volunteers for your tireless work to bring more affordable housing and services to those most vulnerable in San Diego County. The work we do now will last decades to come.
