Is it just me, or does a truck driving around residential neighborhoods with a “Re-Elect Meehan” sign feel tacky and weird? What does he think he’s Santa Claus making the rounds?

It comes across as a pretty lazy way to campaign. Well it was during Happy Hour so there’s that.

In the most underwhelming endorsement ever, Lap Dog on the Rude Awakening Show threw his support behind Rick Meehan for Mayor.

I mean, let’s be obvious:

He cut Matt James’s segment from the On-Demand show this morning.

He cut Carol Proctor’s segment when she laid out the facts on the sports complex last month.

He did not hold the mayor accountable about misrepresenting the facts about the ordinance for the sports complex, particularly, the $250K.

He hands the Mayor a weekly platform to spew his lies and propaganda.

He lets the Mayor turn the show into a bully pulpit whenever it suits him.

So obviously we expect Lap Dog’s total endorsement of Meehan?

Someone from Montego Bay wrote a letter to the editor in the Dispatch that is entertaining, but completely missed the obvious.

When three current council members and a former council member are endorsing the Mayor’s opponent, that is not a minor detail. It is a meaningful signal from people who have worked alongside him that something is wrong.

Ask yourself: Why did Peter Buas leave the Council in 2024 to challenge Meehan? And why has Matt James chosen to step down from the Council President position to run against him?
These are not casual decisions. People who know the inner workings of town government do not simply walk away from power and challenge an incumbent mayor without reason.

Their actions speak volumes about the state of leadership under Meehan, and about why it is time for a change.

This is a clear example of the change Ocean City needs. The decision by Mayor Rick Meehan’s allies to publish a hit piece labeling Matt James a criminal is deeply troubling.

This is the same pattern of behavior that galvanized me and why I pushed back so hard: using personal attacks and pressure tactics on frivolous issues instead of engaging on the merits logical debate.

After more than two decades of Mayor Meehan and his allies in office, the questions remain: How many times has he used municipal government to suppress dissenting opinions or target someone’s livelihood? How many businesses or employees have been threatened with fines or inspections for refusing to toe the line?

These are not isolated incidents. They reflect the character of the leadership, the approach to governance, and the record of Mayor Meehan’s long tenure.
This is who he has been in office.

On the Maryland State Police flight, anyone with a basic understanding of the process knows these missions are approved through the State Police chain of command. The Council President, Town Manager, and Town Engineer were on that flight. Mayor Meehan was not. Where was Rick?! “Showing up” at the bar as usual.

IAFF Local 4269’s endorsement process included a candidate forum, consideration of public service records and candidate positions, recommendations from the Board of Directors, and an opportunity for all members to participate in our organization’s endorsement process.

Remember last month when Mayor Meehan appeared on the Lap Dog show and used the platform to push a false narrative about the council prematurely voting against purchasing property for the sports complex? And when Carol Proctor pointed out that the town would owe the seller a $250,000 deposit if the ordinance passed on First Reading—only for the mayor to flatly deny it on the radio.

Also recall how the Lap Dog show cut a 25-minute segment of Carol Proctor’s comments on the sports complex, only restoring it after we publicly called them out.

If you remember all of that, this interview clip is hard to ignore: Matt James confirms that the sports complex contract did in fact include a $250,000 deposit contingent on the ordinance passing on First Reading, and Lap Dog’s reaction speaks for itself.

Ask yourself, why would the Mayor go on the radio to misinform the public about this $250k payment of Taxpayers money?
