Project proposed to make Blackstone Ave more pedestrian-friendly

CD+A's latest multimodal project for the City of Fresno - the Southern Blackstone Avenue Smart Mobility Strategy, was endorsed by the Fresno City Council yesterday. The advocates organized to ensure that the Council heard from the community in support of the project.

The plan focuses on the southern stretch of the street, and calls for bigger sidewalks, better crosswalks and slower speed limits.

Paint the Town Puts Traffic-Calming Murals Around Oakland

More coverage of the work where CD+A collaborated with local communities in the City of Oakland to implement their Paint the Town! projects. Paint the Town! is a pilot program launched by the City of Oakland’s Department of Transportation (OakDOT), that enables communities to create vibrant street murals in their neighborhoods. CD+A assisted community members with mural design, selecting and purchasing materials, and painting day logistics. CD+A has helped implement 8 murals throughout the City and we are currently building a website to share updates and more in depth information on each project. Funding for this program comes from the Oakland Fund for Public Innovation, a non-profit platform to engage private funders in support of city priorities.

New effort underway to make Blackstone Avenue, the ‘spine’ of Fresno, a more healthy street

The advocates for a multi-modal transformation of the 'Spine of Fresno' - Blackstone Avenue, have an opinion piece published in the Fresno Bee. The effort hopes to spark the redevelopment of properties along the southern segment on the corridor, by creating a pedestrian and bicycle friendly environment along a 2.4 mile stretch of the erstwhile California highway. A project that CD+A's Thomas Kronemeyer has been leading.

Last weekend CD+A designed and implemented a vibrant street mural as part of the Paint the Town! program in collaborating with EBALDC (East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation), OakDOT (Oakland Department of Transportation) and residents in West Oakland.
The design is a tribute to the Music History in the city of Oakland and at the nearby California Hotel. The street mural is located at 34th Avenue and Linden Street along San Pablo Avenue. The project is part of a larger effort to create a more pedestrian friendly and safer intersection for the neighborhood.

CD+A is working with local communities in the City of Oakland to implement their Paint the Town! projects. Paint the Town! is a pilot program launched by the City of Oakland’s Department of Transportation (OakDOT), that lets communities create vibrant street murals at intersections and mid-blocks in their neighborhoods. This programs aims to foster community building and public safety using creativity and the resource of our city streets.

CD+A worked with Earth Team, an environmental non-profit that engages high school students throughout the East Bay, in an after school internship program. The students’ projects are aimed at reducing litter in Oakland, and raising awareness about the effects of litter on our Bay through community engagement.

We’re looking forward to the next painting day with ASCEND School on June 2nd!

Special thanks to Walk Oakland Bike Oakland and Earth Team for their work, and the Oakland Fund for Public Innovation for their funding support.

CD+A's Senior Associate Bharat Singh was interviewed by Infrastructure Today Magazine for their cover story on the rush of investments in urban rail MRTS in Indian cities. Bharat provided a perspective from an urban planner, highlighting the challenges of integrating MRTS investments with the overall urban development strategies for Indian cities.

The experience left the planners wiser. And this was evident in the 65 kilometres of the first phase of the ambitious Delhi Metro Project getting completed a full two years nine months ahead of schedule in 2005, in a period of a little over eight years.

Eyes on the Street: Telegraph Avenue Gets Green Paint | Streetsblog San Francisco

"Bike East Bay will have ambassadors on the street starting next week to greet people and help them figure out the new parking configuration, which will be a foreign concept to many. Instead of parking along the curb, cars will be parked to the left of the new bike lane, which could take some getting used to."

Crews were out adding the first touches of green paint. In the next week or so, they will continue painting the section of Telegraph between 21st and 27th, Oakland’s first experiment with parking-separated bike lanes.
