Siesta beach sand facts

Siesta Beach was named # 1 beach in the United States by TripAdvisor Travelers Choice award in 2022, 2017 and 2015

Siesta Beach is known for having some of the finest and whitest sand in the world. Composed mainly of pure quartz, the sand originated from the Appalachian Mountains over thousands of years. Carried by rivers into the Gulf of America, the grains gradually moved south along Florida’s coastline. These fine particles, with minimal traces of coral or shell fragments, create the beach’s signature soft, powdery texture. Quartz sand has healing property !

The sand at Siesta Beach is also remarkably old. Its age is evident not only in the small, uniform grains but also in the absence of minerals like feldspar and mica, which have eroded over time. What remains is almost entirely durable quartz, giving the sand its distinctive smoothness and brilliance.
