Early in the pandemic Patrick Stewart started reading Shakespeare’s sonnets on his social media. In those days, when no one knew what was happening or if it was perhaps the end of the world, here was Patrick Stewart showing up every day, dressed like it was just another day in the world while still being confined to home, reading the Bard for all to hear.
I’ve always been a fan of Shakespeare, so it was a great source of entertainment but it also made up my mind to do just as he did. I began to dress just as if I was going to work and committed to making the days as normal as could be.
No t-shirts and sweats, after a morning workout I would put on a button up, roll up the sleeves as I do, and dress as if I were about to clock in at the restaurant. It gave a level of calm to a world turned upside down and a bit of poetry to start the day.
If you are also a fan of Shakespeare then I would encourage you to check out the BBC version of Hamlet, a brilliant interpretation and Patrick portrays Claudius as befitting as could be asked of a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
I bid thee adieu, God speed sir.
