The planned seven-mile toll project would create a second crossing of the Currituck Sound, connecting the mainland near Aydlett with the northern Outer Banks. Supporters believe it could help ease summer traffic congestion, reduce travel times and provide another important evacuation route during hurricanes and other emergencies.

The estimated cost has now reached approximately $1.2 billion, with regional leaders working to find solutions for the current $800 million funding gap through spring 2027.

EVEN-TIDE! One of our favorite little spots in Duck, cozy, waterfront and tucked right along the boardwalk. And they just happen to have the best grilled cheese sandwich we’ve ever had.

Our must-have: the homemade pimento grilled cheese with country ham on country loaf, with hot honey on the side for dipping. SO good!
