25 years ago today, our country changed forever.

I was 21 years old, a college student at Dallas Baptist University, driving to class and listening to the radio when the DJ suddenly interrupted the song with breaking news: a plane had hit the World Trade Center in New York.

At that moment, there was confusion. No one seemed to know exactly what had happened. Was it a terrible accident? What kind of plane was it? What was going on?

And then the second plane hit the second tower.

I will never forget that moment.

I remember the collective realization that this wasn’t an accident. Our country was under attack.

Then came the news of the Pentagon. Then the plane that crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. And for the rest of that day, we held our breath, wondering what would happen next.

There are certain moments in history that divide your life into “before” and “after.” September 11, 2001, is one of them.

25 years later, a generation has grown up knowing 9/11 primarily through history books, photographs and stories. But for those of us who lived it, the emotions of that day are still remarkably close.

The fear. The confusion. The heartbreak. The disbelief.

And the overwhelming sense of unity that followed.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the families forever changed, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the countless people who carried the weight of that day long after the headlines faded.

We remember a nation that stood together.

We remember the innocent.

We remember the brave.

And we remember that freedom is never something to take for granted.

A generation has gone by, but I will NEVER FORGET.
