Remember when I said San Antonio traffic wasn’t that bad?

Well, some of y’all had THOUGHTS. Over 50,000 views later, I’m still standing by what I said.

This is what I traded Houston traffic for.

It’s 7 PM in Bulverde, Texas. The roads are quiet. God is showing off. & I’m just enjoying the drive home.

As someone born & raised in the Greater Houston area, I spent years thinking that sitting in traffic was simply part of everyday life.

Moving to the Texas Hill Country completely changed my perspective.

Yes, we’re a little outside the heart of San Antonio.

Yes, depending on where you’re headed, you may have a longer drive.

But when I compare the actual time I spend behind the wheel here to what I experienced growing up around Houston?

I’ll happily take these Hill Country roads.

& these sunsets? Just an added bonus. 🥹

Here’s something else you might not know…

🏡 There are currently 400+ NEW CONSTRUCTION homes available in the Boerne–Bulverde Corridor, including Fair Oaks Ranch!

💰 Some homes start around $375,000.

🔑 & with certain new construction opportunities, you may be able to get under contract with as little as $500 in earnest money!

Imagine trading the hustle of the city for evenings like this.

Quiet roads. Gorgeous sunsets. More room to breathe.

You don’t have to leave the San Antonio area to find a slower pace of life. 🤎

Now I’m curious…

🚗 Houston, Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio: Where did YOU learn to drive?

And would you trade a few extra miles for a drive home like this?

👇🏼 Tell me in the comments!

Want to see what’s available in Boerne, Bulverde, and Fair Oaks Ranch?

I’m convinced Houston & San Antonio have two VERY different definitions of traffic. 😂🚗

It’s 4 PM on a weekday. I’m coming home to Bulverde from Hondo, merging onto I-10 West from Loop 1604.

& would you look at that?! Cars everywhere. Everyone moving. People staying in their lanes. Nobody treating the double white lines like a suggestion.

& WE’RE ALL GETTING WHERE WE NEED TO GO. 😭👏🏼

As someone born & raised in the Houston area, I genuinely struggle when people tell me how terrible San Antonio traffic is.

Because to me, traffic isn’t simply having a lot of cars on the road.

Traffic is sitting on a freeway, barely moving, watching your estimated arrival time get later and later. My car was often in park in the middle of the freeway. I used to study for my college exams on my way to University of Houston. 😒

Traffic is leaving somewhere at 4 PM & wondering if you’ll make it home before bedtime. 😂

Today? Not a single delay on my drive home. & I’m not saying San Antonio NEVER has bad traffic. Of course it does!

But a busy freeway where everyone is still moving? That’s not bad traffic. That’s just a road with cars on it. 🤣

Maybe it’s because I grew up around Houston traffic. Maybe it’s because I’ve spent years adjusting to the slower pace of the Texas Hill Country.

Either way, I think my definition of a terrible commute is permanently broken. & I’m perfectly okay with that. 🤎

Now I need to find my people!

🚗 Houston transplants, DFW transplants, Austin transplants… am I making sense?!

🌵 San Antonio natives, is THIS what y’all consider traffic?!

Tell me where you learned to drive & whether you’d consider this a bad commute. 👇🏼

Houston taught me how to survive traffic. San Antonio taught me how to calm down. 😂🚗

As a Houston native who relocated to the San Antonio area, I was NOT prepared for the unwritten rules of driving here. 🤣

🚗 1. YIELD means something different here.

In Houston, YIELD means accelerate, match traffic, find your opening, & hope everyone cooperates.

Here? People actually slow down. Sometimes they STOP. I was not prepared.

🚦 2. TURN SIGNALS WORK HERE?!

In San Antonio, you use your blinker & people actually slow down to let you in.

In Houston, signaling can feel like inviting every driver nearby to close the gap.

You wanted to merge? That’s adorable. Try again in 20 minutes. 😭

🛣️ 3. THE WHITE LINES AREN’T DECORATIVE?!

In Houston, I’ve watched people treat solid white lines like optional artwork.

Here, drivers actually wait for the proper opening to enter the exit lane.

WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?! 😂

🐢 4. THE SPEED DIFFERENCE.

Houston: The speed limit is apparently the opening bid.

San Antonio: Someone’s doing 10 under in the left lane, & everyone just accepts their fate.

Meanwhile, I’ve got nowhere important to be, so I guess we’re all going 45 now. 🤷🏻‍♀️

After years in the Texas Hill Country, I’ve officially become one of y’all.

Now when someone speeds past me, cuts across three lanes, or refuses to let someone merge, I catch myself saying:

“Ugh. They must not be from here.” 😭😂

The Houston girl in me would NEVER have believed it.

Somewhere between moving to Boerne, settling in Bulverde, & falling in love with these Hill Country backroads, I stopped feeling like I needed to race everywhere.

I love that for me. 🤎🥹

Houston drivers vs. San Antonio drivers: Who’s worse?! 👀🍿

If you relocated here from Houston, PLEASE tell me I’m not the only one who experienced this culture shock.

I didn’t become a Realtor because I dreamed of selling houses.

I became a Realtor because I dreamed of a life where I could be both a present mother AND financially independent.

When I started my real estate business in 2020, we were in the middle of a pandemic, I was navigating a high-risk pregnancy, & I had absolutely ZERO local sphere of influence.

No built-in network. No purchased leads. No guarantees.

But I had a vision.

I wanted to raise my children without having to ask permission to take a day off. I wanted to be there for the little moments, the school activities, the slow mornings, & the ordinary Tuesdays that eventually become the memories we treasure most.

& I wanted to build something that was MINE. (& then it turned in to OURS)

What I didn’t anticipate was how much I would fall in love with the people & communities along the way.

Real estate introduced me to neighbors who became friends, families planting roots in the Texas Hill Country, & people trusting me with some of their biggest financial decisions.

I built my business around relationships, not transactions.

I realized that being successful didn’t have to mean being available 24/7.

Today, I’m raising two boys, helping lead The Grell Team alongside Brandon, & continuing to build a business that supports the life we actually want to live.

I’m proud of the career I’ve built. But I’m even prouder of the life it’s allowed us to create.

I didn’t get into real estate to sell more houses. I got into real estate to have more life. 🤎 & helping other families find a place to build theirs? That’s the beautiful part I never saw coming. 🥹

If you’re dreaming of putting down roots in Bulverde, Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, or the surrounding Texas Hill Country, I’d love to help you find your place here. 🌿
