Bakken is more accustomed to timber roads, trails, snow, and whatever happens to cross his path on a day outside. Halloween presents a less familiar decision.

We narrowed this year’s costume down to four options: lumberjack, bear, moose, or cowboy.

In McCall, getting outside is part of everyday life, and the Red Ridge Village concept was designed with that in mind. The current plan includes approximately 18.2 miles of publicly accessible non-motorized trails and more than five miles of groomed snowmobile trails, along with trailheads and staging areas.

Rather than ending at the edge of a neighborhood, the proposed trail system is intended to connect people with open space and the surrounding recreation network.

The walls are up, and the windows are going in at Legacy Creek Ranch. What began as a set of plans is starting to look like a place someone could call home.

It’s also a carbon bank, not just a cabin. The wood used in this build is estimated to store approximately 110 metric tons of CO₂, roughly comparable to the annual emissions of 24 passenger vehicles. It’s one example of how the materials chosen for a home can become part of its lasting value.

Aspens don’t all turn at once. Temperature, moisture, light, and elevation can influence when the green chlorophyll fades and the yellow and gold pigments already present in the leaves become visible.

That helps explain why fall color around McCall can look different from one hillside to the next, or from one week to the next. McCall Area Chamber points leaf-peepers toward places including Goose Creek Falls, Boulder Lake, and Box Lake, where October can bring some of the season’s best color.

Did you know? Idaho’s Forest Practices Act sets standards for protecting soil, water, wildlife habitat, and forest health during forestry operations.

DF Development follows these standards as part of our approach to responsible land and forest management.

Fall changes the way people use the land around Cascade and McCall. Cooler days make long hikes more comfortable, hunting seasons bring people deeper into the woods, summer crowds thin out, and the approach of winter starts to show what year-round access really means.

There’s still plenty of time for hiking, fishing, mountain biking, ATV riding, or simply spending a quieter day outside. The landscape doesn’t become less useful when summer ends. It becomes a different place.

Public and private land can sit side by side in Idaho, which makes boundary awareness especially important during hunting season. Before heading out, confirm your unit and season rules, know where the property line is, and get permission before entering private land.

Hunting has been part of life in Idaho’s backcountry for generations. On DF Development land, we keep that tradition going with Table Mountain Outfitters , a local team of guides who know this country.

TMO’s guided hunts help us manage wildlife and keep the land healthy for the long term.

From a map, Legacy Creek Ranch is approximately 2,000 acres of private land bordered by U.S. Forest Service land to the east. On the ground, that scale becomes forested hills, roads, trails, water, and homesites spread across tracts ranging from 10 to 200 acres.
